Jay pawns 1125EnjoyedThis was my first introduction to modern art and this definitely inspired me to learn more. Wish there were more episodes.

Tube-i-foreI enjoyed the show a lot, I followed it twiceI really enjoyed the show and the host. I listened to it over and over again. I finally got rid of it. And then a month later listened to it all again. It’s an interesting approach to the subject of modern art, which sometimes makes me feel like I’m being fooled. It made me think about some of those things differently, although I didn’t fall in love with all of the art she talked about. I did love every episode. I would love another series like this about Art presented in the same way - intriguing and engaging.

manayunk wallwhat is this suppossed to be??OMG, people are giving THIS 5 stars?? The Andy Warhol episode sounded like 2 vacuous twenty-somethings giving their opinion (with almost no real facts) on the subject. This is inane, vapid, ditzy and fatuousness at it's most extreme!! Example: "Like, I was a 14 year blogger, like, I know nothing about Andy Warhol, but like I know people that once lived in NYC so like here is my opinion like presented as fact." I really can't believe this is connected to MOMA. JEEZ, unsubscribed indeed!!

Leahy3223I’m late to this party but so glad I found it! Recommend!Abbi Jacobson is so knowledgable and relatable; almost as if my funniest friend is walking me through MoMA. Thank you for putting these ten episodes of wonderfulness into the world! Love listening and learning—

Mags120Expressive ArtsI work as an Expressive Arts Therapist in Los Angeles and I love learning the history behind the feelings, emotions and surroundings that inspired so many famous works of art. Abbi is funny and knowledgeable. She keeps you entertained throughout the podcast. I love all the guests you invited to share in this dissection of artwork. I would love to see a tv series on the same topic, so I can see the art as you analyze each piece. Thanks for making me smarter today than I was yesterday!

ReighbowQueen Bean Loves Art YAY ❤️👑I am a recent English graduate and lately I have been struggling A LOT with moving forward to get my graduate degree in Art History. So I did want anyone would do and looked up art podcasts to see if I could handle listening to people talk about art for stretches of time. So how excited was I to hear Queen Tiabeanie Mariabeanie de la Rochambeaux Drunkwitz talking about modern art and its impact. This podcast is funny, smart, engaging, though provoking, and makes me smile. Thank you for taking the edge off my anxiety about my future by making art appreciation so accessible.

applezmoiA true love poem to artAbbi Jacobson knocks it out of the park with this approachable art podcast done for WNYC Studios in partnership with MOMA. Fans of Broad City might recognize Jacobson as one of the show’s main characters, whose wit and charm carry over into real life. She’s an art major but it’s clear her talented voice was made for radio. One of the best parts about the show is that it is always so refreshing to hear someone speak about something they clearly adore. For most of us, art can seem intimidating, but this funny down-to-earth pod says art is for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you dislike art or work full time in an art museum, Jacobson makes informative and comprehensive cases for all sorts of it. Her passion for creating a podcast about art that educates while captivates in a way that isn’t pretentious is the sort of attitude the subject needs. The show gives an inside look into MOMA with the help of some of Jacobson’s friends. She brings them along to gauge their reactions to some of the works she discusses. It’s so interesting to hear the different impressions and perspectives. Guests include Hannibal Buress, RuPaul, and Questlove to name a few. Everything they have to say is useful and adds to the presentation unlike what I’ve seen in other shows. I’ll admit I was skeptical on how hearing people talk about art would be with just the audio but this ten-part series is out to prove anyone with the same doubts wrong. While it’s completely possible to enjoy the show without viewing the art, a quick google search gives you so much more to appreciate. For an easy way to make sure you’re looking at the right piece, I recommend checking out the show’s website. Apple Podcasts has 4.8 out of 5 stars, 1,343 ratings, and 278 written reviews. Episodes were about 20 minutes long, commercials were average for the length and music was minimal. You can listen to the episodes out of order with only slight nods to guests from older episodes being the only building information. Owltail can’t generate the most popular for this short series but my favorites were “Samantha Irby Gets High on Light” and “How Questlove Learned to Love Silence.” No trigger warnings for this one. I’m sure it’s obvious by the length of the review that I loved this show. It is definitely in the running for my podcasts of the year. I would give it 10/5 stars if I could. Similar Pods: The Art History Babes, ArtCurious Podcast, The Week in Art, and (bonus YouTube recommendation) The Art Assignment. margofazInteresting topics but the swearing is totally unnecessaryGreat topics and interviews but the swearing is kind of childish and unnecessary. Show should stand on its own two feet without resorting to swearing for emphasis or shock value. Also makes it so I can’t play it if kids or sensitive audiences are around. Would have given it 5 stars if i knew I could play it on speakers and it was safe for work. Good host, good comments, funny but like I said not safe for classrooms, kids, certain audiences.

Kalin2016The definition of overproducedToo much "cool" music, patronizingly exaggerated vocal tones, chit-chat, background noise, narrative, and opinions; not enough substance, i.e. information and history.

Alyssa 😺SOOO GOOOOODI found this during a search for more content created by Abbi because she is the goat. I knew I’d like it, but I loved it even more than I was expecting! There is something about her voice that makes listening to it so pleasant and easy. I also love art but it’s not my career, so I really enjoy hearing what Abbi and her guests’ think, and learning about some of the history behind the art or artists. I am so sad bc I found this during covid and doubt new episodes will be made soon. I will attempt to resist bingeing all of them, to stretch it out just a teeny bit longer 😌

MAGGIEMAY_93Art Education for DummiesI’m no expert when it comes to fine art but I have always enjoyed a good art museum and the experience one can gain from personal interpretations of art. Being a huge fan of Broad City, I was excited to try out this podcast. I was immediately addicted and I actually went through the entire series in one day of working from home. Abbi please give us another season!! I loved learning about rule-breaking, boundary-pushing artists I had never heard of and I’m dying to know more!

iHezaInsightful and hilarious!I don’t ever write reviews but I just have to say that this podcast is one of my favorites. Abbi is charming as hell, introspective, and knows exactly how to talk to folks about what they’re passionate about. I have always appreciated art but she makes it so accessible and that’s really something that art needs in this time. PLEASE MAKE MORE!!

nanzpeaceBrilliant, fun, educational, thought-provokingI love art, am an avocational artist, and have taken a lot of art courses. But I‘m 72. Abbie makes it a total delight to “catch up” with lots that has happened and is happening in the fast-expanding and changing world broadly referred to as art. I learn so much from her questions, her interviewees, her chosen topics—and why so many think her varying subjects of interest are not just art, but “good art” (my words.) Thank you Abbi!
-
lbeegs35Love itAbbi Jacobson can do no wrong. She is approachable, hilarious, engaging, curious. She so adeptly invites her listeners to feel comfortable tackling conversations about sometimes obscure art. I love it!

LJ7891Excellent and surprising!I didn’t know what to expect from a podcast that was telling me about art that I wasn’t actually looking at in person! But these conversations are so fascinating and have given me really new perspectives on particular pieces and whole genres. I learned SO MUCH and find myself telling things I’ve learned here to my friends all the time. There’s nothing out there quite like this podcast. Recommend it so much!
-

DarlaChefGrateful somebody is talking about the hard part about viewing artI’m so grateful that someone is talking about the hard part about viewing art. As a practicing abstract artist I find myself edifying and defending modern art often. Great guests, wonderful eye into MOMA, and excellent commentary from the curators and practicing artists. I gave this 4 stars only because while her energy is infectious, Abby has a tendency to talk over whomever she is speaking with. Wish she gave her guests a bit more space to finish sharing their thoughts before she shared her own.
-
Everything Is GeekyFunny and InformativeGreat podcast that I hope they pick up again. The insights into modern art have vastly increase my appreciation for the forms.
-

Wizmaster188Second season PLEASEI stumbled upon this podcast recently, and after the first episode I fell in love with it. I’ve been a big of Abbi Jacobson since watching her on Broad City, BUT I haven’t been as big of a fan of art. This podcast, however, makes me appreciate how art can be accessible, dynamic, and simply fun. I hope this gets a second season!!!
