GONE

2,534

Have you ever spent hours looking for something you simply lost? How about a hundred years? How about looking for a missing airplane? Or a vanished civilization? Every other Monday, Gone searches for everything lost. From D. B. Cooper to the Holy Grail, the Etruscan language to early Russian cosmonauts; if it disappeared, we’re looking. After all, just because something is gone, doesn’t mean it can’t be found. Gone is a Spotify Original from Parcast.

I wish they still made this podcast

BRING BACK GONE. I LOVE IT. Great subject matter
This podcast is interesting, engrossing and relaxing. The subjects of the episodes are fascinating. Many stories are about things lost to history that I’ve never heard about before. This keeps me from being bored with listening to the same old subjects covered in documentaries, classes and other podcasts. I like that some of the stories are new to me. My two favorites are the lost tribes of Israel and Marie Antoinette’s lost necklace. The format and narration of the stories make the podcast a great choice to listen to before bed or when just relaxing. I MISS THIS PODCAST. PLEASE BRING IT BACK.

    No Show Show
One show and that was in 2020. Maybe it should stop being promoted as, “you might also like.”

    Fact checking?
Listened to the Susan Powell episode...obviously you didn’t research the purpose of LDS temples. 😂

    Is Gone... Gone?
I love Gone but it seems it’s turned into nothing more than a promo feed for other shows. Parcast is notoriously bad about doing this. Bring back gone... or has it gone missing for ever?

    Where did Gone go?
Will Gone be subject matter for its own show? Wish someone would let us know.....

    Erroneous information
Just listened to the Susan Powell episode. A lot of inaccurate information. Especially about the LDS church. How hard is it to get accurate information.

    Meh
Love the topic, dont love the hosts robotic telling of it.

    Great show!
Hope they come back with more episodes! Love the case studies and hosts. I’m almost caught up and noticed they haven’t released a new episode in 2 months 😅😕

    Bad Promo
Parcast gets one star for releasing the same promo episode in all feeds on the same day.

    Great show
I really like the show. It’s clear that a lot of research goes into these episodes. It’s also disheartening to hear names mispronounced. Especially names that are local in my area. In episode 23 they pronounce the Paiute Indians with a long e sound at the end. The e is silent. It is pronounced pie-you-t.

    Just awful
Poorly researched and presented. Terrible “hosts”. Yet another podcast that exists only as a vehicle for advertising.

    Super Interesting Podcast
I do a lot of biking and listen to a good many podcasts. After filtering through a lot of duds and not wishing to put any more true crime into my life (at least for a little while) I stumbled upon this. While I admit I'm a bit of a history nerd, this podcast ticks the intrigue boxes that please true crime junkies and conspiracy nerds alike. Riveting stories, excellent production, none of the extraneous chatting and administrivia that accompanies lots of podcasts. These are just good stories, along with good theories of the actual eventualities described. Altogether, this is one of my favorite podcasts I've found so far. No fluff here, just good, compelling storytelling.

    Inaccuracy
I was thrilled to see that the Dennis Martin case was covered, as it’s something of particular interest to me. I turned it off after hearing the circumstances by which Dennis disappeared because it was ABSOLUTELY incorrect. I hate having to wonder if the story I’m hearing is accurate, and this is the second Parcast show I’ve stopped due to inaccuracy. Just do the research 😑😑😑

    Good show
I don’t get why some people are freaking out about them promoting new shows, all podcast networks do that (wondery channels will promote other wondery podcasts, parcast does it, WNYC does it). The show is good, the cases involving missing people don’t interest me much as I usually turn to crime podcasts for those.
  • LawDawg145833
    Bad
The premise of the show is good but it’s not very well researched. I’m from East Tennessee so I know the Dennis Martin story well. They start telling the story with inaccuracies. It’s wrong from the very beginning. You can literally google the story so there’s no reason to get the facts wrong.

    Unfortunately this subscription
sends a lot of other podcasts that I have do interest into my queue and they are a pain to delete. You get alerted of a new episode, but it is usually for some other series. Initially it seemed interesting, but I’m guessing they’ve run out of material and have started to use Gone as a platform to pilot other podcasts rather than produce new material.

This is what other Podcasters strive to get to
As well as write bad reviews to slow them down. Why? Just strive to get to the place where these pros are.
  • Mr Danger
    Interesting and documentary sounding!
This is a great podcast and I love the narration of both hosts. So well put together and official sounding. The voice talents of both hosts keep me listening and interested. Keep it up!

    Terrible narration
Narrators, especially Molly, are especially antiquated and old TV news reporter bad. Wish u well, but very unfortunate.

    Grossly sympathetic to a murderer
Just listened to the Susan Powell episode. I understand that there may be legal issues that prevent them from saying her husband killed her, but he did murder their children. The narrative is grossly sympathetic to this abusive murderer, portraying him as a misunderstood and loving father. Deleting this podcast. Disgusting.

    Love it so far!
I am a huge fan of the unknown and history. this podcast easily helps you understand it, find more about mysteries, leading to theories, more questions, and finding them here!
  • dinglepeggy
    Love it but....
I used to enjoy this podcast very much but ever since Spotify bought this network the addition of background music and sounds is distracting and irritating. Think about what you want the listener to hear, the background music/sounds or the narration? I think the two narrators/voice artists are excellent and I like to hear their voices. I was very interested in the latest episode on the Walt Whitman notebooks but I could barely hear them at times because of the irritating background sound effects and music. Same goes for your unexplained mystery series and all your other podcasts. Please, use them sparingly!

    Why Move?
Why did you move to Spotify? Very frustrating trying to open an acct in order to get “Gone”. Guess I’m “gone” too...we’ll see you later! Will miss your show.
  • kodyjustin
    Very fun and interesting
The only thing keeping me from giving this podcast 5 stars is the continuous and annoying use of BCE and CE as time references. I think BC & AD would be more useful and understandable. Otherwise a very fun and interesting podcast

Lost City - Same old nonsense
Gotta say your story-telling in this episode perpetrates a ridiculous "history" that Montezuma believed Cortez to be a god. Where's the proof of this (jesuits)? Same old, same old reducing a complex story to a cartoon, I was enjoying some of your podcasts - but this is a big old-school misstep IMO and changes how I view this podcast. lazy.

    Errors Galore
As a lover of history and good writing, I can barely listen to this podcast due to its numerous errors and poorly-written scripts. And the fake sporadic interaction between the two hosts is cringe-worthy. Get your information somewhere else.
  • TexMcK
    Hard to Listen to
I was really excited by the subject matters, but couldn’t get through one episode. The way the hosts spoke distracted me from the content. The female host sounds like she’s trying to lower her voice and over enunciating. The male host reminds me of a car commercial announcer. I felt like they were just reading a script, not presenting a topic they had investigated. I prefer hosts who are more conversational in their delivery. Would give it another try w/ different hosts.

    Fun Podcast, Odd Sources
I just listened to my second GONE podcast, starting with the VILLAIN episode (which was excellent), then The Missing Prime Minister episode (which was also well-told). However, the second episode relied on ludicrous sources, such as a book that relied entirely on word of mouth from very biased sources (to be fair, this was addressed by the narrators), and lastly two spiritual mediums that were taken as serious sources, which felt out of of place for a seemingly high quality and thorough podcast.

    Wonderful premise, great listening
Excellent niche to discuss - missing people/artifacts/etc. The discussion goes well, and the podcast audio is top-tier quality.
