Copycat Killers

954

As Murder Made Me Famous takes a break, we're thrilled to bring you Copycat Killers, the next great true crime podcast from Reelz and Podcastone!

Hosted by Forensic Psychologist Dr. J. Buzz Von Ornsteiner, this series goes behind the headlines of real-life murder cases which copy memorable slayings seen in Hollywood movies. Each episode features a mystifying murder scene and law enforcement’s hunt for the killer. Whether it’s two high school students terrorizing and killing a female classmate to copy the horror blockbuster Scream or the gruesome acts of pig farmer and serial killer, Robert Pickton, who copied Hannibal and fed his victims to his pigs—these horrific scenes actually happened but very few people know the real stories that led to these killings. CopyCat Killers includes interviews with investigators, family members of victims and forensic experts. The series also features high quality recreations, extensive archive and original documents from police case files. Check back every Tuesday for new episodes!

Prepare for your ears to bleed
I was listening to the SCREAM killers episode and they replayed the same ear piercing scream about 30 times. Not to mention all the other annoying loud sound effects that are pointless. Don’t you guys realize some people listen with headphones? Will never be listening to another episode from them again.

    Good Idea Bad Production
Really bad. Really over-the-top action movie trailer voice over doesn’t fit in a podcast world. Stupid. I can’t tell if it’s dramatized, actual interviews, or both, but with all these voices and sound effects being tossed around it’s strange and confusing. Each episode sounds like a commercial spot. Moving on…

    Great podcast
This a great podcast. I hope more come in the future. The only qualm I have is that some are actual copycats inspired by the movie or TV show, but some are just similar cases.

    OMG! It’s so good!
This Podcast is probably the best murder podcast I’ve heard. I think my favorite episode so far is “Deliverence or Taxi Driver”. I hope more episodes come out very soon. -Thank You!

    Weird pauses
Pretty interesting stories. The strange mid sentence pauses are super irritating though. To the point where I think my headphones are dying or someone is calling me. Probably won’t listen again.

    Quality always!
The REELZ brand is a guarantee that it is well produced and entertaining every time! I always enjoy the you tube and other tv versions of the shows and it is awesome to have another format.

    Interesting storylines but..,
The cases are very interesting and good to listen to on commutes. But the host can get bit annoying with his dialogue and way he says things like he’s doing a film trailer. Some of the connections to a film are a very thin far reach.

    Awesome!
I love this podcast! I don’t have cable so I can’t watch the shows so I really enjoy being able to listen to them. Very informative and easy to listen to.

    Crazy People
This podcast just remind me how crazy people are around us... can’t believe some of the stories in this podcast🤬🤬🤬🤬
  • Stingr54
    Great listen but
They need to make sure the title matches the movie, Primal Fear and Fear are two very different movies and Geraldo Rivera was about Woody Harrelson. Gotta work that stuff out.
  • ~VAPOORISE~
    could of been great
concept of the show could be great but its just annoying. Its like listening a movie over and over for an hour (IN WORLD.....deep voice deep voice)

    Murder Made Me Famous
I think some of the connections for CopyCat Killers are a little bit off and seems like they’re trying hard. I loved the Murder Made Me Famous. I’m a fan of both though and will listen regardless but I can’t wait until you guys go back to Murder Made Me Famous.
  • pureleaf227
    Fake reporting
It’s entertaining but all of their stories are manipulated by $ drs. If you don’t believe me listen to the purge episode. No connection what’s so ever. Still entertaining though. Maybe do fiction because I’m listening to the Rambo episode...love cops but they’re not spec ops..
  • Panpodcast
I thought it was a Parody
This show reminds me of “American Maniacs” a parody of America’s Most Wanted that was featured in Natural Born Killers. Pure sensationalism with very little facts. Then”re-enactments” often display events that no one was actually a witness to. But if you’re just in it for the entertainment then it’s fine.

    Missing Murder Made me Famous...
*for all the people like me who had been looking for the old episodes, of you look up Murder Made me Famous in the search bar you can find them all* This is kinda interesting but definitely doesn’t come close to MMMF. Good but not great. I recommend going back

    Fail
Murder Made me Famous was awesome until they changed it to this mess. Unsubscribing.

Changed format and stretching to relate to movies
Murder made me famous was great and should not have been changed. It seems as though they found a couple cases where movies/shows inspired the murderer but some it seems like a large stretch to relate. In the Eliot Rogers episode they literally just compare him to Bateman. It’s not a great concept because there aren’t a lot of murders that killed because of a movie. In one case they talked about how a subject had a troubled upbringing and committed horrible acts but credit the motive all to watching a movie. Go back to Murder Made me Famous.

    Disappointed
I LOVED the original content and now this is boring. I can’t even go back and listen to the Murder Made Me Famous episodes

    Production
Background music and sound effects are baad. Sounds like a 90s movie

    Where are the episodes?
What happened to this? I loved this podcast and looked forward to listening to the the episodes I haven’t heard and they’ve all disappeared. I’m going to unsubscribe if it stays this way. Sorry but this used to be a great one and now it isn’t.

    Change wasn’t needed
They changed the name, format, and I have now lost interest in this podcasts they got rid of Murder that Made Me Famous podcasts which the new format drab and stale. DO NOT recommend listening to this one anymore. Change it back to the original on how it was and maybe 5 stars would be an accurate description.
  • CoasterFish
    Meh.
Was a great podcast until they switched over to Copycat Killers and removed all the episodes they had, all of which were really cool. This new concept isn’t nearly as interesting and is hard to get into. Should’ve stayed with Murder Made me Famous.
  • KrystalE4
    What happened??
What happened to all the episodes?? I loved this podcast until all the episodes disappeared.
  • Ju0330

    Awful
Repetitive, silly garbage. The entire episode can be summed up in 2 sentences. Don’t waste your time.
  • Sittit
    Seriously?
Two or three episodes are the same.... awful podcast. 0/10 would not waste your time with this.

    Wrong Eposode
Are you going to play the natural born killers episode or no? It’s completely the wrong episode under the title.

    I’m Hooked
Copycat Killers is well researched and presented. The expert analysis really ties the murders to movies. Amazing that people actually do this stuff in real life. Kudos to whoever found “Dr Buzz.”

    On making a Murderer episode
Recreations are horrible some of the people commenting are uniformed and naive
  • Mike0557
    Ads!
I want to love this show but I can’t. The length and placement of the ads just destroys the flow of the show for me. To be fair, I’m all for you all making as much ad revenue as you can but I personally feel the placement is wrong for the enjoyment of the show.
  • Iguanagal
    Interesting profiles
Really enjoy listening to the podcast but the reenactments don’t translate well to the podcast version. Keep to the narration and skip the acting.
  • naskiddn
    Interesting, but...
I find your podcast interesting and engaging, but please remember that your audience is listening and not watching your content. Extended scenes where your audience just hears sound effects in place of the narrator/voice actors should be taken out.

Check your pronunciation of place names
This is a great program BUT the pronunciation of place names is horrible. Before recording, while you’re doing all of the other research, look up how the names of cities, towns and all principalities are supposed to be pronounced. Nothing is more distracting than a poorly spoken place name in the course of a story.
  • pokrface
    Overdone dramatizations
This podcast really loves to have women screaming way too long and graphically in tacky re-enactments that are completely unnecessary to tell the stories.
  • queenvikki
Useless, can’t listen to any episode
There’s a technical issue with this podcast. It’s not possible to stream or download any episode. If I go on the website using my phone, I can’t play any content. Useless.
  • SophiaMiller
    Love the podcast but..
Recommend using sex worker as opposed to prostitute.
  • KayleighRae4
    Dramatically biased.
This show is so dramatic. It is completely biased, and edited to tell the most dramatic version of each story. It is not fact based, and relies on sensation interviews. You can hear the real facts, substantiated by actual police reports, testimonies and other case file facts of ALL of these cases on multiple other podcasts. If you’re looking to find a better understanding of these famous cases, you won’t find it here. I’m so disappointed.
  • flap1980
    Bad sound production
Everything BUT the narrator sounds fine. The narrator’s audio sounds like it’s coming from the fuzzy radio channel. Also, the narrator is a bit melodramatic.

    Too much for me
Tried to get thru “prom mom” it was just too disturbing. Not much bothers me. I listen to all the true crime I can get. This was so graphically detailed I had to turn it off. The podcast itself is great but hearing the story of this girl giving birth, all alone in a restroom stall was heartbreaking. I don’t think she maliciously harmed the baby. She was young, scared, uninformed and probably not in her right mind. If she had only talked to someone, anyone, about it this might have been just another young girl with a baby she’s too young to care for and that would be the preferred story in this case. If only one of the girls at the prom had questioned the noises or blood on the floor an adult might have intervened but it ended in the worst possible way. I feel very sorry for this girl. Living her life with the guilt of what she did is her true punishment
