    Exceptionally human music chat
Just listened for the first time. Simon from Biffy Clyro. What a great chat - perfectly placed between music as life, profession and the humanity of the player and how they relate to their craft and crowd. Big recommend. Can’t wait to hear more.

    Advice
Here’s why you’re a bad interviewer. 1. Stop talking over the guest 2. LISTEN to the guests answer. 3. Stop rushing to your next prepared question and be flexible enough to expand on the guests answer 4. The interview is not about you 5. Only interview guests you have a genuine baseline understanding of besides a Wikipedia dive the night before. It’s obvious and painful to listen to 6. Stop calling yourself a journalist 7. Worth repeating- nobody lands upon this podcast because you’re super interesting. You’re not. We are here for the guests. Drop the 20 minute intro of pretend broadcast banter and concentrate on improving your interviews by HEARING your guest and engaging in genuine conversation versus your numerical rushed rapid fire questions or your opinion about virtually anything within the scope of the interviews.

    Great guests. Average execution.
Love the guests on here, but they are constantly being interrupted by the host.

    Amazing podcast!
I’m always in awe listening to Lior have such natural and fluid conversations with so many incredible musicians! What’s refreshing is that its tone is so casual that you can tell the artists are enjoying the chat as much as we are enjoying listening to it! Really peels back the layers you wouldn’t normally get to in a standard interview - such a special podcast! Highly recommend.

Perfect blend of conversational and educational
There's so many music podcasts out there, but This Must Be the Gig is the BEST blend of conversational and educational. You can really tell how much research the host does, and artists always sound so comfortable talking to her -- hence why they discuss the type of stuff you want to know as a fan but publications rarely cover. Cannot recommend highly enough. An underrated gem!

    Enjoying the Gig
Genuinely enjoy the podcast! Each conversation feels natural and highlights something about the artist you wouldn’t hear in a typical interview.

    The Gig is Up
Look no further for your next musical obsession. Each interview is delightfully revealing, and the one thing they all have in common is Lior. She does something for real that lots of podcasters fake: She's actually listening, instead of waiting for her turn to speak.

Pick me up and turn me around :)
I'm a huge TMBTG fan for a few reasons. Loved the insight from Lior's Open Mike Eagle episode. Who'd have thought Open Mike Eagle, a hip hop artist from Chicago would count Brooklyn's Nerd Rock Band, They Might Be Giants, as one of his major influences! You don't' learn things like this from superficial 3 minute interviews on youtube or TV. This must be the gig is the only podcast I ever listened to with my 79 year old Father. He was an still is a big Gloria Gaynor fan. (he would play her 8-Tracks every sunday on the way home from Church.) And TMBTG was the first podcast my Dad ever listened to! You can feel how Lior bonds with her guests, and podcasts like this allow listners to learn and feel not only what makes these artists WHO they are, but also WHY they are.

    best music interview podcast
Lior is one of the best interviewers I've ever listened to, read, or seen. No line of questioning or conversation is forced, yet she never lets things become too superfluous. A great interviewer shines a light on the essence of an artist--it's a hard feat given the decorum and monotony of the format. Time and time again Lior proves she's worthy of the title. bonus game -- take a shot each time an artist says "wow, great question"...you'll be quite drunk by the end

    Fantastic podcast!
Lior is witty, entertaining, super knowledgeable and she gets great artists on the show! Loved episode 77 where she delves in with Jim James and Teddy Abrams about their incredible, one-of-a-kind collaboration The Order of Nature.

    Sound
She has access to wonderful musicians. But the sound is god awful. Really, for a music podcast? I need to crank my volume to the max to try to hear anything.
  • Great app!.....
    Love episode 61
    Made my sunday afternoon. Thx.

Yank it up! (Or the most supreme podcast ever in history!)
Are you tired of your everyday aural experience being with cluttered with nothing but inane chatter, true crime podcasts, or sub-par improv about Game of Thrones? Look no further, sonny-Jim! This podcast provides you with candid, in-depth interviews with a wide variety of top level performers and creators from all walks of life. The host (that’s Lior) is fun and bubbly, but will get right down to serious business when need be, while keeping things moving along like smooth jazz. If you’re interested in hearing about the inner workings of some of your favorite performers without having to go to the garage (the gates are locked!) then be sure to check this pod out. Also, engineer Adam is pretty cool.

    Great, in-depth interviews!
This is a great longform interview podcast, exclusively with musicians and singer/songwriters! There aren't enough podcasts out there like this, so I'm glad I just discovered it. Lior Phillips is a great host/interviewer, too!

    Some great guests, boring interviews
Hard to get thru the boring questions and conversation....too bad as some of the guests are really great.

    Binge-worthy!
Recently stumbled upon this gem of a podcast and am obsessed. She’s interviewed so many of my favorite artists, all with different POV’s and opinions. I look forward to future interviews with utter anticipation. Keep it up! Also, come to NYC!

One of the Best Music podcasts!
It’s hard to come across long form interviews with artists/musicians outside of radio programs, but this podcast really stands out thanks to the host and the great guests they managed to bring on.

    Fun and informative show!
Came in on the John Linnell show and enjoyed it. The host is very engaging and energetic. The questions are good, and help bring out great answers and stories from the artists. Highly recommended!

    This Must Be THE PODCAST
Lior is a pro. She's been to nearly every major festival across the globe and seen nearly every band that's ever been dubbed essential, which is why This Must Be the Gig is such a treat to music fans. She brings her keen insight to the program and unpacks the industry no different than a hip roadie who's building a stage. Okay, that metaphor is weak as hell, but this show isn't. Start listening now for the ticket of a lifetime.

    Excuse me, passion coming through.
Passion drives a good conversation. Lior is sitting in the drivers seat with some amazing passengers who have wonderful insight and stories...In fact I listened to the Shirley Manson episode on a long car drive from Vegas to LA and I felt like I was there with them. Lior possesses more passion and wonder in her pinkie than most people have in their whole bodies. She’s a person you want to have hrs long conversation with. So excited for more!

Shirley Manson on the first episode! So great!

    My Log Loves This Podcast
My log has already heard the first 3 episodes and it is excellent. My log knows fire, and believes Lior is Burning Down the House. You'd have to be crazy, like a Psycho Killer or something, not to listen. Podcasts like this don't come around every day, maybe Once in a Lifetime. Even if my Girlfriend is Better (And She Was), she doesn't have a podcast so you should listen to this one. It is Heaven. Take Me to the River.

    This show is gonna rock
Hey, full disclosure, I run this podcast network, but I’ve seen what Lior has planned and folks... this is going to be a stellar series.
