It was a fact; everyone knew it. Then suddenly he reappeared, youthful, brilliant, ready to take over the Phoenix, the rebel group that worked to overthrow the tyranny that gripped the settlers on Mars. The Phoenix had been destroyed not once, not twice, but three times! But this time the resurrected Dark had new plans, plans which involved dangerous experiments in mutation and psionics. And now the rebels realized they were in double jeopardy. Old school SciFi
The problem with revisiting older SciFi is that it’s so problematic. This story is very sexist even while trying to comment on sexism. Also ableism. Other isms. The anti-capitalistic & Bad Science themes are a bit overrun by corrupt overreaching government themes. There’s a “love conquers all” theme thats very trivialized by the underlying sexism. It’s a dusty mess even though the basic plot is intriguing. And unfortunately much of modern SciFi is still burdened by bad older tropes represented here. It gets a bonus star for having an interesting narrator, tho.

    Difficult to understand
Realized I was spending the majority of my time rewinding so that I could catch what he just read or what the characters just said. I, too, gave up. I don't understand using this narrator. Choosing someone with an accent, who won't be understood by all, was a risky choice for reading a podiobook.

Good story, but hard to understand
The reader's accent makes the book hard to understand. Had to give up on it, shame.
