My favorite thing about the lockdown
I have listened to all 8 several times. All interviewees are over 60 and Cheryl interviews them about what they are doing during the pandemic. Fabulous! I think my favorite was Pico Iyer. And Judy Blume. And all of them. I think this is my favorite podcast ever - and I listen to lots of podcasts.

Woke but never experienced anything than hotel service
Writers from people that never had real experiences doesn’t count. Staying at a Holiday Inn for vacation in another country doesn’t count.

Please keep sharing yourself and your guests with us, if you can. Listening has been like finding many waters in a desert, warmth in a bitter winter, rainbows rising from the dirty flood...

Beacon of wisdom through a trying time
Loving this podcast. It’s both comforting and informative to listen to these conversations. Helps to make sense of this challenging time in the world, and Cheryl does a great job as always.

    Heartwarming
From the miracles of internet I listen to this heartwarming podcast in a rural area in the interior of Brazil. We so need the wisdom of both the caller and the called, individually and collectively since our country is a ship going astray - and so is yours and so many! Please make good on your commitment to come back. We need the warmth and the wisdom. Thank you. Branca Alves

    Thank you.
Thank you so much for this wonderful podcast. It has been my favorite and I hope it comes back again. I was introduced to authors I didn’t know, and felt such a strong heart connection to each conversation. Much gratitude for this most wonderful gift during this extremely difficult time.

There’s a quiet all over the world
I’ve listened to most episodes and downloaded those I haven’t for walks with my dog. I really have enjoyed Cheryl’s talks with her literary friends and intend to check out a few of their works, especially Joy Harjo and Billy Collins. So glad to hear Cheryl will continue Sugar Calling podcast. It’s one of the best I’ve found, but I was also a big fan of Dear Sugars.

    Authentic and Uplifting
Every Wednesday, I had something to look forward to. During a time of such uncertainty, these podcasts grounded me. Cheryl Strayed is so authentic and her beautiful podcast filled my heart with hope. I am normally an avid reader, but I’ve been having a hard time concentrating on books. Cheryl Strayed and her amazing guests brought those words to me through their heartfelt and authentic conversations. Thank you.

    Joy Harjo
I had tickets to experience Joy’s grounded wisdom in April. So what a blessing to hear her with you. Poignant was the conversation towards the end about how beauty can help us feel and understand the world we must move towards. A world in which through beauty we feel our hearts and are able to understand each other as beloved souls. As I write this, I feel the soft caress of the dusk breeze and feel grateful for your offering.

    Calming Wisdom
For a dose of calming wisdom, listen to Cheryl‘s authentic conversations with authors who have lived long and intentionally. I hope more episodes will come sooner rather than later, and until then I’ll listen to these again when I’m longing for sage companionship.

    Please Keep Them Coming!
I have listened to each podcast while I walk my dog and I always feel better, and a little wiser after. Please keep making these. This is a great podcast!

    Crushed!
I just came to the end of your talk with Joy Harjo, and whimpered a pathetic-but-so-sincere little “Oh nooo...” when you announced it was the last in the series. These episodes have offered both wisdom and respite the past eight weeks. What do we do now?
  • concord pfg
    Thank you.
    Please come back soon.

    A Salve
This podcast feeds me week to week. I often find tears in my eyes by the end. I love how these interviews don’t shy away from the world as we know it now, and yet they are a salve for the anxiety I often feel. Thank you, Cheryl, for this podcast. It is a gift.
  • LavenderBlue19
    Brilliant and poetic
Cheryl once again has found a way into our hearts and minds. This podcast has been such a bright light during a dark time. Love the folks she is calling and how casual and yet thoughtful the conversations are. Can’t get enough.
  • MsLabRatLingo
    Ms Lab Rat recommends
Do not confuse Sugar Calling with Dear Sugars. The pretense of calling writers to solve a letter writer’s problems has been dropped, freeing the conversations in Sugar Calling to be exponentially more genuine than those of Dear Sugars. Or maybe the difference between the two podcasts is something as tiny as, say, a virus, and it’s time to get real. Bottom line: don’t dismiss Sugar Calling because you’ve grown tired of Dear Sugars. The interview with Alice Walker (creator of the original Sugar, the Sugar of all Sugars) is guaranteed to wake you up.

    I like the conversational balance
Cheryl, for the record, I disagree with these last couple comments ... I like the fact that you share your experiences as well. It’s nice to get to know you. That’s what a real conversation sounds like ... I think some have an old fashioned definition of what an interview sounds like. - ps I host the Next Big Idea podcast, and have been listening to yours for inspiration ... like minded I think.
  • mayaBoston
Agh Cheryl stop making it about you
I wanted to like this and really admire these guests but you can’t hear them because it’s all about Cheryl and all her many ‘amazing’ experiences, and what an amazing writer she is, eye roll. She needs to learn from excellent radio hosts out there and to let the guest speak!!!
  • Chaitanya Kalbag
    KNOWING WHEN TO STOP
I have listened to every episode and I don't like the fact that Cheryl feels the need to inject her own experiences into every intervieew. Whateveer major experience her subjects mention, she seems to feel` the need to recall similarities from her own life. She could do more to draw out more thoughts from her interviewees.
  • Jlloslove
    Wealth of wisdom
I love everything about this podcast—even the calm music played while Cheryl calls her guests. Love that she talks with not just writing legends, but elders. Love that the talks are casual, but can get deep at times. I have written down a quote from every episode. There are all those seeds of wisdom. Fabulous!

A must listen for Spring 2020
I am touched by the thoughtfulness of both the host’s questions and the guests’ answers. I deeply look forward to the 30 minutes I spend listening to this podcast each week. This is beautiful and healing work.

    Just What I needed

    A Balm for the Soul
These episodes have been a balm for my soul. I’ve been listening to them on Saturday mornings while I go walking and they always revitalize me. Thank you to Cheryl Strayed and all of the writers she interviews for these conversations.

    Beautiful
These are beautiful, raw honest conversations with extraordinary people. I love the passages and poems each choose to read to Cheryl. I love hearing thoughts about today’s circumstances from so many different points of view. Just a stunning podcast!
  • Kimbongo37537
    Much needed right now
I’m finding solitude in these conversations. Authors and writers have an essential message for all of us during this time.
