alexis.the.gayCould be better but still goodI never could fully grab onto the storyline, and the series's are so freaking long, each episode an hour long too. It's just not for me I guess!

explodingboltsFavorite new show!Cannot recommend this highly enough for people who absolutely love history or have a passing interest

bennett_DinosaurRetitle Nov 6 episodeHave enjoyed this podcast immensely, and the level-headed approach. But comparing George Wallace to Donald Trump and the description starting with words about segregation is pathetic and egregious. Seriously, can you please have a dislike for Trump without falsely comparing him to segregationists? Fear mongering, misleading, and inaccurate. Disappointed. Will restore a 5 star when you change the title. I’m not a Trump apologist but this ridiculous rhetoric has to stop if you want to be a respected source.
-
kc3485History is not up for debate. You can’t change history to fit a narrative you want to mold into you’re current politics. This happens way too much with these hosts. It discredits the whole podcast. Unlistenable.

Jallday RhuleBrilliant Story TellersLearning so much about world history through your brilliant story telling. Also love your side chats and opinions. Well done.

ChhhirufucisYou Mean Rewriting HistoryYou remember it was the Dems who were slaveowners and fought against equal rights, right? And that liberals are playing identity politics in the 21st century - just like Wallace - and hosting race centric events at the exclusion of other races, and encouraging bracelets to now “identify” if you’re “one of us?” I may not be the biggest Trump fan but comparing him to Wallace is gross negligence and openly denying the elitism occurring today. You also ignore the fact Trump was the first president to appoint an openly gay person to his cabinet, the first president to enter office openly supporting gay marriage, signed a bill permanently restoring HBCU money, and created “Opportunity Zones” to directly support minority owned business. Trump gives you lots of legit reasons to hate him, but do it with the truth, not false historical narratives.

jzerhusenLooking for an amazing History Podcast? Look no furtherThere is a reason this is the best history podcast on the planet. Tom and Dom have great chemistry and their in-depth and passionate storytelling is impossible to turn off. The self-deprecating and sarcasm are keys to my enjoyment.

TheRomanTexanLeftist biasHow can you compare Trump to George Wallace?! 😆
-
BillJr206George Wallace 1968This is probably the single greatest episode I’ve heard. Wallace’s rise and tactics perfectly explain the US election landscape today.
-
ogpodloverTransphobic Conservatives - Biased HistoryJust google their work outside of the podcast. Dismal. Uninspired. Bigots. Anti-LGBTQ. Transphobic. Disappointing on every level. Hope they are cancelled and I never have to come across a poorly written Daily Mail article ever again. Get over yourselves. Such bias in these history episodes — don’t bother listening.

BLH0000085Stringing us along! As much as I enjoy the episodes, it’s incredibly frustrating to be cut off mid series, and made to wait months to a year to hear the ending. Is this done intentionally to bait listeners with a cliffhanger? I don’t believe this is really necessary and just an incredibly annoying tactic. Just finish the series before moving on to the next! I’m debating canceling my paid subscription as I find this so frustrating.

The CammBest Podcast. Full Stop.I can’t get enough of the Holland/Sandbrook rapport. I love the stories they share, and I love how they share them. It’s always fun, always informative, and sometimes they do a good accent.
-
clothladyRequestHi! I’m from Chicago and I Love you both, thank you for all that I’ve learned from you. I would love a series on the Suez Canal and Nassar.

Fart_VandelayThese guys are the bestTitle says it all. Steeped in knowledge, incredible rapport, soaked in wit… the best history pod around… nay, the best pod around. I love these guys.

Juneau listenerBest History PodcastReally enjoy the content, including the episode-long tangents. Hosts clearly are good friends and love working with their crew to make quality, informative podcasts. I find myself visualizing along and reacting viscerally to the humor (irony?)and horror that is present in any true historical narrative.
-
a big box of thatFrom Darkness, LightNo historical subject is funny bits free. This is the most informative and amusing take on historical subjects - any and every of them - of any podcast out there. A must listen.
-
rudymcruderudeNot the best, nor the worst. Not the first, probably not the last. Definitely an English take on reality.
-
baggotA lot of Anti-Americanism HereIf you’re an American and can’t skip the episodes on U.S. history, prepare yourself for a steady dose of these presenters portraying Americans as baffoons, racists, and vulgar capitalists who were embarrassed by their superiors from the U.K. at every turn in history

alex5000jlkfhjklafsdjhgdhjfadsCannot recommend this show moreWhat’s left to say. Brilliant Only want all the shows to be 10 parts. I don’t enjoy the short shows

jaiya'llThe America In ‘68 series is a triumph!I’m a long time listener. I particularly love the episodes dedicated to American history. In the their latest series: America in ‘68, Dom and Tom’s telling of Martin Luther Kings assassination had me transfixed. I was nearly brought to tears by the re-telling of the moments leading up to, and immediately following Dr. Kings murder. Thank you for all you do.

flexismartFrench Revolution part 5The karaoke rendition of the Marseillaise was utterly indescribable, and could only have been performed better were Jeremy Corbyn’s vocal expulsions on display.
-
J M GoffLove it. The building of Venice?Love your podcast. I have a free suggestion. A suggested you’re free to throw in the bin. I think a history review of the founding of the city of Venice would be a great topic. -JG

Wayward SaintCome for the history……and stay for the voice acting. They playfully disparage the quality of it, but it’s actually astonishingly good—exceptional vocal range, solid mimicry skills, and (often) excellent accent work.
-
nelly peaIn my top 5 podcastsErudite, witty, thought provoking. Love the banter; analysis of historical subjects is top of the heap.

#OKBoomerBest podcast ever! This is my all-time favorite podcast. I became a member and have been listening since the very beginning. I was initially brought here by reading Tom Holland‘s excellent book Rubicon, but I have stayed because the podcast is just fantastic. The interchange between Dominick Sandbrook and Tom Holland is just about the best in media. The way they analyze historical topics with excitement and knowledge cannot be beat. As a history teacher in America, I fully approve. You will not regret purchasing a paid membership. I think this is some of the best money I have ever spent. Thank you so much Tom and Dominick!

MargiesulCaptivating historyVery engaging personalities - easy voices - great story telling. History is made so accessible. Wonderful way to learn more about history.

ZeeSquatch5/5 ShowGreat show that make history more interesting through a wide net of covered topics. Could use a bit of work on the Nixon impersonation.
-

Stay TrimI am going back to listen to every episodeWhile I listen to many podcasts this is my first review. The discussions on each episode are fascinating and delightful. I am a fan of history but prefer certain time periods. These guys make every period interesting. Can’t get enough of this show!!!!!!

dence_1234Essential educational entertainmentThis show has been one of my go to podcasts for years and it holds up. The friendly banter of the hosts and their expert guests, the variety of topics they cover, and the expertise the hosts bring on their own specialties pays off every time. I’ve been working through it from their first episodes, and I can’t think of a single dud episode out of the hundreds I’ve listened to.
-
VietSchlongGrossly dishonest historyThey’re both hacks with political axes to grind

PudelmomHenry IVFinally! An explanation of the double names!

arsocairoBest Way To LearnThis is one of the most informative and historically correct podcast. I’ve ever heard. If you want to learn about world and how we got to be where we are today. You have to give a listen. Get smarter!

sam howardsNow this is podcastingExcellent podcast. Great research presented in a conversational manner with an excellent dose of humor.

Steve619mAwesome!If you’re looking for a detailed history of a wide range of topics The Rest is History is for you. The episodes aren’t massive epics like Hardcore History or quick hit single episodes on a single topic usually, more a thoughtful approach. When topics like the French Revolution or the life and last stand of Custer they may do multi-episode series still get not about an hour long. Other topics like history’s best monkeys or some other random pallet cleaning topic will be a single hour long episode. Both hosts bring their own unique perspectives and background to presenting the story and still manage to do with the classic British dry humor. An A+ podcast, absolutely recommend to anyone from history enthusiasts to homeschoolers.

101732One of the best podcastsTom Holland sounds like the lead singer of Pet Shop Boys

sheri882Another one of my faves!Being an American, I get tripped on some of the sayings, but this podcast is still great fun!

PGL52Battle of AgincourtJust finished the excellent series on Henry V and the battle of Agincourt. Always enjoy the hosts conversations around some of the more contentious issues. I did have a question……why did the French pick the ground at Agincourt when the topography (the woods protecting the English flanks and the ‘funneling’ effect of the woods tapering towards the English lines) gave the smaller English force the ability to negate the larger French force? Since the French only needed to block the way to Calais, presumably they could have picked a battleground better suited to their force.

Merseyside8American revolutionMy goodness what a British apologist take. These gentlemen kindly glossed over the true atrocities that took place by the hands of British troops on soon to be Americans. No to mention the undue burdens of which they have several amendments to protect against today. I think any historian would be remised to ignore the very harmful and destructive effects British occupation on those especially in what is now Boston and the northeastern United States. Americans hated King George of course, but I think the idea of a monarch in general was more their main concern. No, the world would not be better off if Britain would have won this war. The idea that they were never going to and “never had a chance from the start”(episode 4) if preposterous and I think everyone can clearly see. They had the largest army in the world by some magnitude, and according to the podcast had significant numbers of royalists in the colony. I’m glad to see most of the world has thrown off the weight of their pompous and self righteous presence.

bigwiggyWonderful podcast that is educational and great funFrom the time I was a boy I have loved reading history. I still do but another wonderful way to learn history is via podcast. I’ve been listening to Dan Carlin‘s hard-core history series for years, which are unforgettable. They are truly long form and require a serious investment in time so they are not for everyone. I’ve recently discovered this wonderful podcast called The Rest is History which is now the most popular podcast on this topic. I believe it because the presenters -both British historians - are wonderfully witty and humorous, and clearly enjoy each other‘s company tremendously. Their infectious love of history comes through loud and clear. Well done and keep it up!
-
ElijahVHHumor and History, a Perfect ComboHumor and history. What could be a better combination for a podcast? Love listening to these guys chat about anything and everything from the past. That being said, would love an episode on the Cappadocian fathers/mothers (Macrina, Basil, Gregory, Gregory) and their impact on the west (hospitals, poor houses, etc) and/or an episode on the impact of Alcuin of York on education in Europe. Both topics seem like they would be right in Tom’s wheelhouse. In any case, thanks for continuing to put these great episodes out!
-
Traveller and gamerSuch a fun way to consume historyI’m a bit of a history geek/dork, but these two make it so much fun. My Scot brother in law introduced me to the podcast. So much fun to listen to history, with a clearly un-American approach, from two well researched, respected, and passionate experts.
-
Jamie PfefferMy favorite podcastSoon, podcasts will probably outnumber (but not replace) books. And Dom and Tom make my favorite. Each episode is not just an event for me. It is bigger than that. Because I am dyslexic, at 53, I still struggle to read. Thus “The Rest is History” makes accessible a whole world of history that I have wanted my entire life to know. And by calling their membership “The Rest is History Club”, I feel even more that I have joined a community of like-minded scholars and amateurs (I) whose interests comprise my own. I adore the Club almost as much as I appreciate Dom and Tom for presenting it expertly and passionately.
-
BlondieradredLove the historyI love this podcast. But I have to say the constant digs at Trump are a bit much.
-
jjiusbbbdhagThe Rest is the BestPodcastery at its best! Sure they are so English (not even British)-centric I know way too much about cricket players, Dads Army, Tony Benn etc. and sure they insult my country (US) constantly but I still LOVE THE DOM AND THE TOM! Keep the multi-episodes coming we need a 20-parter!
-
ThisidbLove themGot a big fan-girl history crush on both of these guys! I could listen all day.

Leec8281985Essentially all I listen toThis podcast has become the background soundtrack to my life. Unexpectedly, during a very difficult period of life and transition, this podcast has provided comfort, stimulation, and moments of meaning and connection, and I am grateful for it. No, it isn’t perfect—just like anything—but WOW there are so many really interesting episodes on a complete spectrum of issues, stories, and history for our collective life together. Really looking forward to seeing them live in Boston, and really looking forward to exploring London on an upcoming solo trip with their historical context in mind. Thanks Dominic and Tom! Hopefully a friend of the show😉, Sam
