Clavé 1957Extraordinary entertainment. There are plenty of podcasts today, that offer stories of the weird and eerie, but the consistency of the excellent selections that are here cannot be matched. I’m very lucky that I stumbled across this podcast and I recommend it highly to my friends and family.

HermagorasTycho is a podcast heroTycho remains the hardest working, most lovable human in podcastland. A terrific weird tales writer too. This is amateur podcasting in the best sense, podcasting done for the love of it (Lat. *amare*, to love). I have discovered many stories on this show, and experienced in full others I'd only heard about. For example, William Hope Hodgson's *The House on the Borderland*, a novel I would have never read on my own. I would not say it's a "good" novel, though there are wonderful elements to it. But I'm immensely grateful to Tycho for bringing me through it. Also amazing: his promotion of diverse writers, his heroic “October project,” and his trips into weird poetry. “Annabelle Lee” forever, my friend!

391ajjjWhat a gemThis podcast is made up of high-quality readings of exactly the kinds of short fiction I’m always looking for - ghost stories, weird sci fi, poetic fantasy, and tales of Lovecraftian strangeness. (The selections rarely include body horror, and I appreciate that.) In addition to short stories, the podcaster, who is a professional voice actor, offers some longer works read across multiple episodes. There’s also poetry that fits the genre(s) and although I generally don’t listen to those episodes I appreciate the unusual offering. The podcast player I use doesn’t support reviews, so I came over to Apple podcasts to submit one, something I rarely bother doing. This podcast is great! Thanks for the hours of amusement!

VyshkinLovely podcast!I just need to say though, it does annoy the funk out of me that you continually feel the need to mention that any money goes right back into the show, because like, you’re providing us with a service, and it’s valuable, and you deserve to be compensated for your time and effort. You mentioning that makes me feel like people have somehow made you feel like that isn’t the case. It’s reminds me of people who complain about freaking ads, and podcasters will actually apologize about the ads and meekly justify it, when, dude, F the audacious, entitled, selfish people who begrudge an artist any compensation. The LEAST you can do is listen to an ad, which btw, I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard an ad on your show, and you should do that. Anyway, I appreciate your efforts, and I’m going to sign up for your patreon ASAP. Also, I did want to mention, I loved the episode with your wife reading. I don’t remember which one, but she has a really nice voice and she’s great at narration. You should totally talk her into contributing more if she actually had fun with that and wants to. You guys could even do stuff with both of you!

Sparkey54Great show! You have talent sir! BUT, don’t try to push things politically on people. I understand you are principled and I appreciate that. Mentioning it is one thing. Sometimes, you come across as Self Righteous, though. I can empathize with you about being called prejudice for no reason. You are the last thing from racist or prejudiced. Keep up the outstanding work man!

BaeOfPigsQuality readings, but host needs to work on some thingsI want to start off by saying that this is a show I always check in on every week to see what’s new. I don’t listen to every episode, but I enjoy the host’s readings quite a lot. I’ve even discovered some new authors and stories through this show that I’ve since grown to love! In that regard I have no complaints. Where I do feel like I should give a bit of constructive criticism is in the way the host sometimes interacts with the audience. Now, I’m not saying “you should just shut up and read the story, man!”. At least, I’m really trying not to say that. But I think it could be a good idea to keep the beginnings where you decide to address the audience a little more on the light side. Recently I listened to the ch. 3&4 episode of Horror From the Hills, where you address a comment you received from a listener who disagreed with your decision to explicitly address any racism in stories read on the show. I actually agreed with the point you made, but I have to say it kinda killed the mood. Again, I’m not saying you shouldn’t discuss any serious topics regarding the stories, or that you shouldn’t address the audience or anything like that. But I think you might be overestimating the role you’re playing here While I think you’re right to say it’s best to err on the side of caution in terms of addressing the racism directly, I also don’t think anyone is expecting you to solve the problems of institutional racism on a short story podcast. It’s okay to not take yourself so seriously here. No one will think you’re wasting your platform if you’re not doing a five minute lecture about why racism is bad at the beginning of every ep. I get the desire to be cautious, but it’s okay to strike a balance too. I’m just not sure that airing out your personal grievances with individual critics on air is the best way to be doing things. It only makes the show a lot more unpleasant for people who already agree with you anyway and just want to hear the story. Again, not suggesting you’re wrong to bring up serious topics when necessary, but no one expects you to be the knight in shining armor here. People do come for the stories and your performance of them. Going out of your way to go off on every rando who didn’t agree with you on the show, no matter the validity of your stance, isn’t going to win you any fans and it’s unlikely to change anyone’s mind I hate to sound like a jerk, because you really do seem like a genuine guy who has his heart in the right place. But there’s nothing wrong with letting the show just be a fun place. When you make that big of a deal about some random guy disagreeing with you, you’re not combatting racism, you’re just making the show less enjoyable for everyone else. I hope that all made some kind of sense and doesn’t seem too combative if you happen to read this. That’s certainly not how I intend for it to come off!

GrumpyGurl1081MY NEW FAVORITE PODCAST!!!This show really is a hidden gem that I am so happy to have uncovered! I never gave much credit to early writers of horror and I am so embarrassed of that line of thinking now! This podcast as open my mind and changed my entire opinion. Of course I was familiar with Poe, Shelley, and Stoker but I never considered reading some of the others authors presented because I had stereotyped them as “boring” or “not my type” and after listening to this podcast, have just now realized how incredibly narrow minded I have been. The stories are diverse, interesting, gory, thought provoking, and just down right fun! I love the narrator, his wife, the guests narrators, and his cats😄! I enjoy the commentary he gives and the bloopers. Keep up the great work and thank you for helping me reevaluate my opinions on some the authors you choose and exposing me to new ones! Take care and stay safe and sane in these CRAZY times! WEIRD FICTION RULES!!!

ThaylieNeeds an editorThe readings are adequate. I’d say better than Libravox but not as good as other podcast readers, so I’m not excited by the reading. Most if it is flat, with little emotion or pacing. The speed of reading is always the same, there is some inflection, but not much to create audible interest. Dramatic readings are difficult because it requires the ability to verbally act, not simply pronunciation peppered with some emphasis. The stories are well known to fans of horror and the macabre, despite the repeated insistence of the reader. They are good or bad, depending on your tastes, but hardly “niche”. All this is to say that any annoyance becomes impossible to ignore or tolerate because the reward for doing so isn’t much. My biggest annoyance is the long, often preaching, commentary before AND after the reading. I don’t care about a reader’s personal politics or how they feel about current events or their dissatisfaction with society. I’m not listening to a podcast reading of fiction to hear about how a complete stranger feels about... whatever. Sure, I can waste time fast forwarding until I hit some actual reading, but it’s way more work than I want to do. People like the auto-play feature of podcasts for a reason. The reader doesn’t even give the courtesy of a concise, prepared statement. They are rambling, off the cuff personal thoughts and preachy advice that you just aren’t sure will end. If I wanted to waste my time listening to someone’s opinion, I’d listen to talk radio.

Irving679Great podcast for weird fiction fans! This is such a great place to listen to poems and short weird fiction, especially from authors who have a dense way of writing that isn’t as fun on paper. The reader has a good reading voice and isn’t either monotone or overdramatic. His selections are really good and varied, with a good mix of familiar and unfamiliar. I actually really enjoyed hearing TS Elliot’s cat poems! I’ve been listening to one or two every night as I fall asleep

DarrylhuntSubscribe to these great readings.Nothing over the top, not overly produced, but those are both compliments. These are just solid readings of cool weird tales done really well. Tyko (sp) seems like a really cool, down to earth guy in the short intros and extros he adds to the shows. I really look forward to seeing these stories pop up in my stream every week. Subscribe to this podcast.

whisperingspiderYup subscribed in a heartbeat.Absolutely great podcast. Glad there are no sponsors or commercials. You can tell tycho is passionate about reading and narration. Constructive criticism incoming: Hey man it would be cool if you could record some bookends for your episodes. Some intros and outros. It would be nice to know when the episode is over so we can tell when to pause it and so on. When I was listening to the willows I actually listened to it backwards lol. Keep up the good work brother.

TorileighWExactly What it Says on the TinGreat voice reading great works. Love the story selection and that there are no interruptions for sponsors through the readings like so many other shows. I slammed the subscribe button after the first episode I heard (“The Thing on the Doorstep”).

David BonesteelLove it!Been listening on and off and have noticed the show getting better and better. Great story selection, too. Really enjoying his reading of “A Christmas Carol “ right now.

ericjones87Great!Just finished listening to Dracula and I loved it! The narrators filled the characters with life that I never got fro the written page. The passion and skill in which it they were read (not to mention the awesome accents!) was truly a pleasure to hear. 5 Stars! Recommend to everyone. Looking forward to going back and listening to the rest of the stories now.
