synthetic88Great exploration of jazzIntroducing me to some great classics I had never checked out. Contagious enthusiasm and interesting insights.

Infinitely interestingNew to jazzDiscovered you guys a couple weeks ago. I appreciate your take on the genre. I am constantly writing names of musicians and albums down that you mention during the show. Thank you for giving me keys to open doors in my music discovery and ultimately my mind. It’s a beautiful thing. I also enjoy your uhhhs and ahhhs. Gives me a Ron Burgundy vibe. 😉

gbattle💯 By Musicians for Musicians Who Love MusicThis is not a pedantic pod about esoteric music theory or historical minutiae like a cold documentary. These are two guys who just love tunes/artists and wanna share how they touched their soul or their development as musicians. This is about joy and reaching back to recapture why you even started playing or what kept you going when you wanted to quit. You won’t hear any bashing of artists here, just celebration and appreciation. It’s inspiring to hear people both humbled and invigorated by their influences. This pod just feels good, like the music they reference and revere. Great stuff!

CWBellaPNWAlways DeliversI start my week with this podcast. Enough said.

98122FANTASTIC music podcast (not just for music dorks)!I love this podcast! I learn something every time I listen. I appreciate how they get deep without getting technical and speak to the magic of music.
-
Jetman624Podcasting at its bestDelightfully snobby and pretentious. Interesting and informative. I never miss an episode.

edward sv 1981The gold, no platinum standardThis is, 100% my absolutely favorite music podcast. So much so that it persuaded me become an Open Studio pro member. That’s a great product in and of itself, but focusing on the podcast, I’d like to express gratitude. I came back to music after a severe injury (likely) took my favorite sport away from me. Open Studio, more than just about anything else, restored the joy of playing music for me. I’m inexpressibly grateful for that. It did so by taking a person who lost art in his life and replaced it with extremely tangible and measurable interests and a similar profession. I was struggling with reconnecting to the simple joy of playing and listening to music versus trying to just grind on improving while feeling insecure about my abilities. It helped me re-see music, which has helped me re-see life as a journey and not a destination. It’s helped me crawl out of a dark place and I can thank Peter and Adam enough for that.

disappointed e-customerWill we hear it?..I love the work these guys are doing on you tube and so I had high expectations when I decided to listen to their podcast. And out of sheer respect, and in order not to miss out on anything, I actually started back from episode 1 and was hoping to quickly catch up with the entire thing. As I write this review I’ve listen to the first year only, 2018, and I’m amazed at how little music there is in this podcast! For a podcast that claims “you’ll hear it” there’s hardly anything to hear musically. I’ll keep listening because you guys are quite entertaining but I’m really hoping that eventually you’ve begun to actually using music in your ‘you’ll hear it’ podcast.

MelissaqwertyMasterpiece - hands down the best in its class!Simply the best! Absolutely in love with this pod which is such an incredible resource for musicians of all levels. GALA! Please never change a thing - this is perfection.

BruceskinikMaster Teachers and PlayersThey say those that can’t do teach. Peter and Adam break that rule big time. Whether you’re a beginning or master jazz musician they have a tremendous amount to offer. They talk about the art and the artists and their hilarious rapport is always charming. 7 Stars!

ETSiegelLong time hangI’ve been a peter martin watcher since his two minute piano things started, and was an early adopter of open studio. OS has changed my musical life, as good as the free YouTube content is, the OS content is about as good as you can find outside the university. So I am totally bought into the OS Universe. But these two are the icing on the cake, unapologetic music nerds with huge ears and commitment. Sometimes they are cringey, (aaawwwlll your music needs) but that’s true of most of my friends. And that’s kind of what it’s like, hanging with friends for an hour and getting some good wisdom/technique/ and vibes. Bright moments! And we need them. Thanks fellas. One thing to look at is how to have the right woman as part of the convo. Want to avoid over-bro.

zachwolfelawHang With Peter and AdamNot the best jazz podcast. The best *music* podcast, period. It’s like hanging out with two old friends, who just happen to have immense knowledge about piano, jazz harmony, and jazz in general. These guys really have their You’ll Hear It stuff together.
-
rosalleaLove these talented gents.Fabulous, genuine., brilliant, prolific, humorous, so helpful and amazing… thank you for sharing your process , labors and love of jazz . And , and. , hand on heart and ivory

KapnKrunchChemistry! The interaction and interplay between you two is hilarious. Not to mention that your advice is priceless. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talents.
-
Benny3553Inspiring Pod!From you’re one subscriber from Leonard Wood! You continue to push me musically but I enjoy the hang with Peter and Adam! Thanks for being a blessing to other musicians!
-
ChristopherK78Great Show!Been loving slowly binging through everything… love it. Just listened to the favorite non-Jazz solos episode… one I’d like to throw in for honorable mention is on the song by John Martyn entitled, “Small Hours”. Steve Winwood plays a mean AND beautiful synth solo. Keep up the great work! BESPOKE AS F!

WS3bespokeThis show is bespoke!

lust4lifeforeverJazz Buddies!Adam and Peter, (or Peter and Adam, depending upon who’s talking first), are like my personal living room coaches who deliver insightful advice and inspiration with the perfect amount of chuckles and self-deprecation. Whenever I’m in a slump, I’ll listen to an episode, even if I listened to it years ago. It perks me right up like a dehydrated squirrel getting some apple cider. I play the podcast (or YouTube video) over my house speakers, and it’s almost like we’re having a little sit-down session, except you can’t hear ME, (which might be a blessing, who knows?) We have coffee and everything—the good stuff! Or maybe a bit of bourbon, depending on the hour. All in all you’ve helped me grow musically and given me a metaphorical kick in the pants when I’m feeling defeated or licking my wounds after a less-than-stellar performance. You increase my determination to get back on that horse! Or give that squirrel a juice box, or… you get my drift. Thank you SO much for putting out all this great content. Bunches of stars for you, plus a few for under your pillows. —Wilson

-
Tim-BabaYou need to hear it!Pure insight. Pure entertainment. You need to hear it! Thanks, Peter. Thanks, Adam. Thanks Caleb. Thanks Open Studio.
-
JoeMac7345Maness needs his own showI enjoy Adam Maness, he offers a lot of interesting insight and valuable advice. Peter Martin seems like he has places he’d rather be. I’d rather Martin just stepped away and let Maness run things rather than just mail it in.
-
pianista231Absolute best for jazz musiciansDang between this podcast & the YouTube shorts- I have enough to practice way beyond my lifespan! Been a member of open studio for a while now & I still learn something new every day.
-
Jgonzo999My favorite! SEVEN STARSSSSS!For anyone looking to understand alot (like, a ton) more about this music, this is the best pod I’ve found, bar none. Adam and Poodles are hilarious which helps with delivering info on a musical study in which many other educators are really too darn serious and full of themselves and vibey (insert Goodman quote from soundboard). Not just for piano players, by the way. Any instrumentalists (I play guitar) looking for a refreshing take on the subject will greatly benefit from a daily dose of Peter and Adam’s wisdom and experience. Love you guys, all the best. Jason
-
Joffman68This is the good part of the InternetThanks for this podcast. I love it! It’s so satisfying to hear accomplished musicians discuss, examine, and explore the realm of jazz theory. This podcast is just what I want to listen to. It’s piano focused but it’s relevant for any musician. Much appreciated!
-
highland608Rebuttal to CR081First of all, here’s seven stars for sure. I thoroughly enjoy listening to you guys and I’m learning lots. Thanks for this latest episode on finding time to practice. I’m an OG about to retire and I’ve been thinking along the lines of “after I retire THEN I will have plenty of tIme to practice.” Thanks for this kick in the pants, I needed it!
-
tcwestcottAlways great and never lets me down! The topics covered here and the hosts expertise delivered with humor and playfulness keeps this pod in my regular rotation. Thanks gentlemen!

Johne154Motivated here by your excellent YT videosAdam’s YT video on Charlie Parker’s Bebop Riffs was an excellent analysis of the riffs in Charlie’s toolbox that drew me to this podcast. Academiologists that beat up Adam up on his terminology and semantics missed the bigger point; Adam analyzed Charlie’s playing on that one song till he found a repeatable musical understanding of Charlie’s approach. It’s like arguing over a chord’s name, when what’s really important are the intervals between the notes that arrive at a specific sound, specific harmony. If your podcasts are like your YT videos, then you’ll get me musically fired up. Start me up like a race engine ready to run.
-
TanmanplanstanMotivational!Keeps me motivated and engaged in the jazz community. I always want to practice after listening!

Rich GrimshawLearning The LanguageIf you want to learn a language, go live where they speak it and immerse yourself. This is the place to learn the language of music and jazz. Adam and Peter talk in music, and for once I'm starting to get it. This is the best podcast I've found in a l-o-n-g time. Thanks for doing this, guys.

KofallbNot a piano player but a fanI’m a beginner hobbyist tenor player, and long time jazz listener. I love this show and the YouTube - been listening for a few years now. It’s funny informative, and inspiring. Thanks Adam and Peter, Never mind that I have to listen to the show alone because my family is not a fan of - jazz. 7.5 *******’

JoJo'RListen!Great podcast. So open and free, encouraging without being patronizing, and above all really musical. Thanks!

anooknook7(3✨)=21✨As a fairly beginner piano player for the last two decades and life long music listener I’ve always found it hard to figure out what’s happening behind the scenes on certain great sounding riffs. I like the episodes that drive right at lifting the veil off of sounds and techniques that have felt largely foreign and unattainable up to now. The recent Funkify Your Playing episode is a good example. The podcast is a vast archive of years of information, but has been markedly improving and lately some of the episodes have been more on the money than ever. Profound even, landing in the category of broader human experience, philosophy, and ideas of advancement. Jazz Mindfulness, perhaps? Plus the good lols and eyerolls.

Harry Landers7 Stars! As they approach their one-thousandth podcast episode, it’s about time that I write a review. I believe that I’ve listened to all the episodes at least once. I think it’s the variety that keeps me coming back. That is, Peter and Adam keep switching up the tone and content. Although it’s (almost) always music-focused, it ranges from well-informed listening sessions and criticism to theory to motivation to voicing techniques to personal anecdotes, all with an appropriate combination of expertise, humor, and humility. They’ve inspired me, a bass player, to start studying and playing piano and, although I’m early in my musical journey (but late in my earthly journey), it’s improved my bass-playing, my musical knowledge and, indeed, my quality of life, immeasurably. I can’t recommend “You’ll Hear It” highly enough.
-
budilegsdream teamAfter so many years of trying and failing to get back on a practice regime that would help me evolve my playing I am so happy to have stumbled upon you’ll hear it. These guys are the perfect mix of technical and artistic, disciplined but open, I am so inspired and grateful to have their expertise.
-
cwpvikEnjoying it!Enjoying the podcast and loving the courses on OpenStudio
-
Phred 187The what and why of it allI love this podcast. I’m a sax player, and never fail to take in something that I can use. I like that Adam and Peter talk as much about being a musician, keeping on, living in the the world and things, as about partic matters of music theory, technique etc. It’s a great perspective on jazz, and music in general.
-
SlarosaInspirational!Amazing podcast. Started listening during the pandemic and I look forward to it every week. Lots of gems about theory and style. Peter and Adam are killing it!
-
beachbum15Fantastic podcastThere is so much mediocre stuff out there in the land of podcasts, both in terms of content and production quality. Adam and Peter are great in the way they interact, have fun with the topics, and most importantly talk openly about the joys and challenges of playing music; jazz specifically. I look forward to each new podcast. It’s like getting together with buddies to listen to great music, and to learn new ways to enjoy playing - in my case the piano. Great team. Great podcast. Keep it up!
-
ErikAugisYou’ll hear it podcastPeter and Adam, you’re the best ! We are so lucky to have this podcast. Seven stars, every time !
-
Snergward42Good stuffThere is nearly always something worth learning in each episode. I had to laugh at the “Funkify” episode though. They couldn’t find the groove and never realized it. Too jazzy for their own good.

Mariel Zuniga7 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️¡Mi podcast favorito! He aprendido y reído muchísimo con Adam y Peter desde el 2020. Súper recomendado.
-
amynix8My favorite podcastI am obsessed with this podcast. I listen to it on my daily walks. It is so inspiring and I’ve learned so many new ideas and concepts to integrate to my never ending piano music studies. i’ve also shared it to my musician friends. Thank you!
-
Rick Hood7 stars. Love it. Very informative entertaining, a bit like Car Talk for Jazz.I am coming back to piano since early 2021 after being away from it for 20 years, this time focusing on jazz. I consider myself a beginner and am all over YouTube and podcasts to pick up as much as I can. Shout out to the New Jazz YouTube channel (Oliver Prehn) who first inspired me. I came across this podcast by searching for jazz in Overcast, my podcast app. I love it. I would say it is more for intermediate and advanced, but by listening I gradually absorb concepts that I hope to eventually use and some I can use now. I also bought a couple of the Open Studio courses. Besides having good information, Peter and Adam are very entertaining, a bit like Car Talk for Jazz.

Kyoung21bGreat SolosI had an Interesting coincidence recently. I had just purchased tickets to see Inside Straight in Palm Springs when I heard about this podcast in another context. The first episode I listened to was the one on how to try to consistently play great solos and there couldn’t have been a set of more salient examples than the solos at the Inside Straight performance. One example that really stood out for me was Peter’s solo on Christian McBrides tune A Morning Story. After a monstrous solo by Warren Wolf, Peter followed with a beautiful solo. And it was such a gas that I had just listened to the podcast episode, as I was particularly sensitive to how Peter handled the transition and it was pretty transcendent. So in the middle of a night of amazing music I was able to really enjoy the added sensitivity provide by having listened. Great job guys and looking forward to more (though I’m also looking forward to the end of citrus season - I was feeling a little sticky :-)) !
-
FrankiejocchioGreat podcast!I love this podcast, super insightful and educational. It has taught me so much.
-
jgadinasdigthis show is where it’s at.
-
Becca PulliamBecca PulliamI love this podcast! From the way somebody blows across the mike at the top to how Peter and Adam talk all over each other (I don’t tell them apart even now that I’m listening to the episodes for the 2nd and 3rd times) to their totally sound and motivating teaching. I want to transcribe what they’re playing but it’s a keyboard conversation that only they can have. I’m happy to be a listener
-
it'snukingOodles of noodlesThese guys bring out the best in each other, like a duo who have playing together for years. Very entertaining and informative. Nevermind the haters, keep on noodling, singing and making basketball analogies. Shout out to Byron Lovelace.
-
equa2Actually, 10 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Adam and Peter, your passion for the music really shines through, and is infectious. As is the noodling (JK!) Best Jazz technique podcast out there. Love the rhythm section episodes, and more bass content would be appreciated! Keep up the good work! All the best, -Todd, CA, USA.
