1994

61

1994 is a road-trip comedy set in the spring of, you guessed it, 1994. It follows the adventures of High School junior Scott Sweet and his friends as they attempt to escape the boredom of their dead-end, small-town Arizona suburb by skipping school to go to Disneyland, deliver 20lbs of marijuana to L.A., team up with a bank robber on the lam, escape from angry unpaid mechanics, make a side trip to Las Vegas, accidently take peyote with a traveling band of hippies, avoid the cops, get laid, convince their parents not to ground them when they get home and maybe, just maybe, score enough money to take his high school crush to the prom. Hey, it beats 2nd period algebra!

    Nicely done
This was very well done! I listened and really enjoyed this. I hope they can some how do a second season with the same characters.

    A Nostalgic Romp
The cast brings the characters and story to life in a way that keeps you listening. The main character is immature, but that's sort of the point. You know right from the very beginning that he's going to learn something and the show is about that journey. The production quality is great, there are twists and turns all along the way, and the music is fantastic. If you're looking for something that takes you back and for some madcap adventures, check this show out.

    Really engaging and absolutely absurd.
I'm usually not the biggest fan of roadtrips, crime shows, teen comedy, 1990s teen comedy, but man THIS PODCAST DOES IT WELL. Plus its a ton of fun to listen to, and easy to follow.

    Painful
A bunch of deeply unpleasant mediocrities go on a road trip and spread the misery around. The concept might be fine for a 2 hr movie but as a series, it makes you just want to light yourself on fire because everyone, especially Jack I-don’t-care-to-know-which-one, is needlessly horrible (edited for mistake in character’s name). It does not help that the show is filtered through rose colored glasses nostalgia that asks of you to dismiss Jack insulting a waitress for no reason, as “Ah, the dumb things we did in those halcyon days.” I’m not holding my breath that the plot won’t be ultimately about how the protagonist will learn that the girl he badgers into promising to go to prom with him if he has money, will turn out to be not worthy of his affections. One wonders if this character will be allowed to internalize how deeply screwed up he is to think he can buy affection and how that is not the thought process of someone who is a good person, much less a good boyfriend.

    Listen to this show
Great show, I love the writing and the voice acting. Honestly so far I love everything made by Mr. Smiley that I have heard, doesn't seem like you can go wrong with his podcasts. Probably helps I was about the same age of the characters in 1994, very nostalgic. Good going Mr. Smiley, I'm a big fan.

    Hilarious
The show is absolutely awesome. If you like audio dramas that aren’t dramatic (if that makes any sense) then you will definitely need to listen.

    1994 is Awesome
Awesome man I’m currently working on a narrative podcast about the crazy and unique events that I encounter in my life lol. My series I’m created is inspired by shows like: Regular show, Steven Universe, adventure time, and South Park.
