    Life Chnaging
When I found this podcast I had just finished reading ‘The Garden Within.’ I could not get enough of Dr. Anita and her wisdom. I love the relationship she has with her daughter. I went all the way back to the beginning of the podcast and listened. Dr. Anita if you read this review, please know that what you are doing is great work and we hope to see you back in the light.

I followed Dr. Anita from YouVersion
After hearing her on YouVersion with the verse of the day, I just felt a bond. She is so down to earth and lovable❤️ The episode with her and her daughter unpacking self love brought tears to my eyes. Partly because I have been ignoring myself and her daughter says what I say to my seniors about FUTURE SELF love ❤️

    Thank you
As a missionary in my late 60’s I needed to hear this. I have spent my life loving others but not myself. I do not like myself let alone love myself. God really spoke to my heart in the episode with her daughter about loving ourselves. Thank you so much, you beautiful ladies. Just what I needed.

    So so so so good!
I’ve been in therapy for at least a year, dealing with surface issues. Now I was to uproot the issues. This is God answering my prayers of opening up the avenue to heal and revealing the streets that I need to take to get to my destination of total body health!

    Narcissistic Abuse
I loved this episode, which feels uncomfortable saying, but it met so much of my experience with relation to the “mother wound.” I listened to an audiobook called “Daughter Detox: Recovering From An Unloving Mother.” That was the first time in my life that I heard my experience quantified. Dr. Abernathy’s statement about “you only get one mother” dogged me most of my adult life - although my mother has been deceased for almost as many years as I’ve been alive. As a Black woman, this episode was so valuable to me because I heard other Black women validate the mother wound. I mean it’s just not something we talk about in the community. Your mama?! Nope, nope, nope don’t talk about mama, especially when she’s the only one holding you down. Thank you for this episode. It was the episode I didn’t know I needed.

    Powerful
This podcast is both powerful and practical. It brings together faith and psychology in a beneficial way, allowing the two to intermix and inform the listener. Dr. Anita also has a gentle (yet strong) posture and a calming cadence as she speaks, making even difficult topics able to be heard and processed.

I Love Love her and Pastor Michael Phillips they were my pastors @ Kingdom Life Church in Baltimore. I’ve moved to Atlanta and I heard they moved to Dallas…God please Keep us in the light and guide us on our new journeys! Amen!

    Amazing Podcast
I love Dr. Anita’s work. I first experienced her teaching at the virtual Woman Evolve conference in 2020. Her teachings spoke to my soul. Her podcast are informative and uplifting. Dr. Anita, you’re such a blessing. I pray God continues to use you to help others. Blessings to you.

    Dr. (Auntie) Anita
If you are a woman, looking to grow and challenge yourself and would like wisdom from a motherly (or in this case, auntie-like) figure, then this is the show for you. My favorite episodes are when Dr. Anita talks about herself. I always walk away reflecting on my own life WITH practical tools to make change. The way she bridges Faith and mental health is unmatched. This show is a MUST listen. I rarely ever miss an episode.

    Purely Edifying
Dr. Anita, has truly blessed me with this podcast, it is certainly anointed. I cannot say thank you enough. It always makes me laugh, think, question, ponder, and receive. And most importantly it was the last big push I needed to get back into therapy again. Much love

    Priceless wisdom
I absolutely love what Dr. Anita brings to the table. Still waters run deep is one of the best sermons I’ve ever heard. She helped me understand fear from a spiritual and psychological perspective in a way I’ve never heard in church. The conversation of faith and mental health is a desperate need in the church. Thank you for bringing it to the light. I hope to use your wisdom to someday spread this to churches in our area!

    Wow! Raw and inspiring!
I was introduced to this RAW, inspiring, tear jerking woman of God at my Churches Desperate for Jesus conference last month! I knew that was not going to be the last time my ear gates were open to her. My goodness bless God! I have listened to 5 episodes today. Bless her for this! Thank God for equipping her. This is therapy in a podcast and I am all for it. I have cried all day long; the perfectionist. Lawd have mercy! Avoir la foi, Tiffany *means have faith*

    The Gift of Imperfection
Ok. This had been the most important Podcast of my life! In the past year The Lord has been challenging me on my attitude towards being perfect, with him, my family, my employer and in my ministry. Dr. Anita your candidness about your wound, description of a perfectionist along with some things my counselor, and Jesus have been revealing about my past, have opened the door to one the biggest areas of struggle in me as a human being and daughter of God! I am taking the tools (so good) you gave us and I am incorporating them into my life. My little perfectionist attitude is already creeping up😆. But, I am reminding myself that I am accepted and loved as I am and that my healing will not happen all at once but over time! And that’s ok!

Tales from the Darkside part 1 and 2
This podcast is always good, but this mini series was AMAZING. I throughly enjoyed hearing the guest’s beautiful story and journey toward God and his ideas about belief. The conversation was so raw and so much of what needs to be talked about on a more regular basis when it comes to Christian spaces. Thank you Dr. Anita for continuing to facilitate necessary conversations and for exposing us to the brilliant minds and practitioners you know!
  • sabilloe
Challenges me, encourages me and more!

    Relevant, Challenging, and Encouraging
Is there any topic that is off limits for Dr. Anita and her guests? She boldly applies the gospel and Bible truths to everyday issues and struggles we face in this life. She challenges us to think more deeply, more lovingly about ourselves and our neighbors. She engages our minds and hearts by discussing important issues that face us in the church today. Dr. Anita has been a voice of comfort and love to me during these pandemic times, navigating and discussing racial injustice, the role of the church, body image...and other heavy topics that have weighed on me over these challenging times. I’m confusion and discouragement, she has held my hand and told me to keep going, and to be kind to myself and others. Her podcast has been invaluable to me, and I’m sure it will continue to be so.

    One of my FAVORITES
I remember hearing Dr.Anita on Sarah Jakes Roberts podcast before and hoping one day she would start one as well. AND HERE WE ARE! Hi Anita!
I’m a nurse and was in my patient’s room the other day and you were on The Talk speaking about love, trust, and relationships and it hit my Spirit. When I got home, I immediately looked you up and stumbled upon this blessing of a podcast! I admire how you courageously and graciously talk about real issues that I feel Christian women, like me, are so hungry for! I too am interested in mental health and seriously thinking about getting my Psychiatric NP license, but just wanted to say you’re one of my new role models! Thank you for being you and all you do.

    GROW IN THE LIGHT!
I listen to every episode but let me tell you Season 2 is especially blessed!!! God knows what we need before we really need it and Season 2 has proven that every week! Dr. Anita thank you for bringing these much needed topics “in the light” so we may have the opportunity to grow and do better all while keeping it REAL!
  • CjMcKinley
    I listen to every episode.
I really don’t remember how I found this podcast but I’m glad I did. I know that some of the messages are geared toward women but we ALL could use these amazing nuggets. I never write a review so please know that I have thoroughly enjoy this particular podcast weekly. It also doesn’t help that April 20th is my bday (and the start date of the podcast.) That was all the confirmation I needed Lol Please keep up the great work doc!

This episode gave me the word that I was searching for
TY, so much Dr. Anita, I love the podcast and always tell everyone I know about it. I love your transparency. I was SOOOO heavy with all the things in our world. As an Intercessor I was so heavy this week with the trial and the shootings that I needed a word to express my heart. When you said despair and went to the scripture, I said hallelujah. I had been ready all the scriptures that I could find in “HOPE” and were soaking in those because of wanting to spread HOPE. You speaking to despair gave me the clarity and empowerment that I needed. Much luv to you, Julia Kingdom Leadership Essentials

    Grateful for this Resource.
It’s been a year wow how great is Our GOD. It has been such an influential resource that has given me support life and the energy to just rep going. I must admit I have written on your messenger platform because In The Light certainly came at the perfect time and I have been able to be consistent with making sure to listen to it every single week. It never fails and is such a realistic resource to implement into ones daily living because it is so clear that with the Christain walk we are still challenged and we must not be deceived to think we won’t have Our own crosses too bare, that would be an injustice and truly a sacrilege. We must walk in Our truth and open ourselves up to the issues pertaining to mental health and develop and understanding which helps us to work through Our concerns and dysfunctions while also praising and worshipping Our Lord and Saviour Christ. He can not move if we continue to look away disregard and pretend the ills of mental health do not exist in us our loved ones friends and family. I am grateful for my Sister Pastor Anita Phillips for her stepping out and sharing her spiritual and professional gems. This has been an excellent motivator for me to stay in the game of life and keep moving ahead in my own lane of grace and mercy. Too GOD be the glory honor and power forever and ever!!!! Thank You

    Happy Birthday In the Light
This year listening to every episode has been such a year of growth for me. I have learned more about myself than I ever have and for the first time began to love myself. I have told all of my friends and they are growing as well. I cannot thank God and Dr. Anita enough for providing this opportunity to grow.
