Too Much of Not Enough: A Silverchair Podcast

85

A podcast recapping the albums of the Australian band Silverchair. Can you believe there's never been a podcast about Silverchair? I couldn't, so I made one. In each fortnightly episode, I’ll cover one release by the band with some special guest episodes interspersed along the way. Won’t you come with me to a place in a little town?

Great listen, easy to understand, and very thorough!
As a lifelong Silverchair fan that knows very little of music theory, I really appreciate the approachable yet informative deconstruction and analysis of Daniel Johns’s career.

    Outstanding Musical and Production Analysis
This podcast is deceptively informative in really unexpected ways. Silverchair fans will love the insight and interviews. Musicians will love the melodic, arrangement, tuning, structure, and performance analysis and breakdowns. Audio engineering and production enthusiasts will love hearing about how these albums were recorded why they sound the way they do. I dare say it’s not even a prerequisite that you like or even enjoy Silverchair’s catalogue if you’re a musician or audiophile. This podcast is engaging, informative, and entertaining. I’m so happy to have found this gem. Save the Llamas! 🐸 🎪 🪩 🌈 🖼

Very comprehensive and entertaining take on my new favorite band
My interest in silverchair began exactly 3 weeks ago after watching an old SNL broadcast from 1995. I was only familiar with “tomorrow” as I’m from the Midwest in the United States. Silverchair didn’t get a ton of radio play and let’s face it that’s where I got music back then. Long story short I’ve been hooked watching old footage of them live, watching interviews etc. We just had a major snowstorm here and I stumbled upon this podcast. What a find! Nonstop Silverchair. I’m almost through the series and wishing there was even more. Thank you, thank you, Daniel. Truly amazing job!

    This podcast covers everything
As a Silverchair fan who appreciates each of their albums, I really enjoyed listening to this podcast. I did not expect this level of depth into their career. Hedger gives thoughtful analysis on the band, Daniel Johns’s life, his song writing decisions, and all the outside factors that affected each album. I can’t imagine anyone doing a more comprehensive podcast than this. Well done.

Thoughtful, smart and a great journey!
This is a great podcast - it takes its time and doesn’t wash over anything. Plus Daniel’s personal take on some of the songs and albums is really interesting and spot on.

    So very grateful
I’m an early 90s baby and have always been so impressed with the composition of the song “Tomorrow”. So I finally decided to look up the band behind this what I thought to be one hit wonder, and wow, I’m so glad I did. How has Silverchair hidden from me all these years?! Thanks to this podcast, I can learn so much about what I’ve been missing out on, this genius of a band. Hosted by a very knowledgeable, musically and information wise, guy. He really “gets” how special Silverchair is and breaks down the albums so well. I don’t know how I could have learned so much with out this podcast and I just want more and more! Thanks to the maker of this podcast and to Silverchair for being so fun to discover! 💕💕💕💕

A Much Preferred Podcaster (and honestly you should care)
If you love Silverchair (& friends) this podcast is excellent. Daniel (Hedger) covers the band’s full career and goes into great detail with the history as well as the music. Bonus episodes featuring Silverchair producers Nick Launay and David Botrill are especially insightful. Thank you Daniel for all the hours of entertainment and information. This is my absolute favorite type of podcast!

    Great content, great production
I’m the same age as Daniel so our experience with Silverchair was very similar. I enjoyed the content as a huge fan, and Daniel did an excellent job producing the podcast. Highly recommended for Silverchair and general music fans.

    Hello From The States!
I first heard silverchair as a 12 year old girl and was hooked on them from that first listen. This podcast feels like I am reliving my teen years - in the best way! A lovingly crafted re-telling of a highly underrated and misunderstood band.
Daniel, this is amazing. You can definitely tell this man has a passion for music in general as well as towards this band. It has been such a pleasure as a huge fan of Silverchair over the years to take in this podcast. He REALLY digs in deep and adds an amazing perspective not only of the music itself but all of the elements around it from the dedication and passion of the band to the world’s perceptions and feedback toward them. It’s incredible and I thank you for this archival work. Growing up with this band and having a certain perspective as a rabid fan, seeing all of these little puzzle pieces through the years, attempting to piece meaning and intention and impact behind them...it has been so very enjoyable seeing someone lovingly craft them together to provider a clearer vision into the whole Silverchair experience. A lot of people don’t give this band or it’s experience enough credit and I really hope that this amazing podcasts lends them a better idea of who and what Silverchair really is. A gift. YOU’RE DOING THIS BAND SO MUCH JUSTICE, THANK YOU. <3 <3

Fantastic listen for fans of the Chair
Wow I am so impressed with this podcast! As a lifelong fan of the band I am in heaven hearing all of these amazing details and trivia I never knew. The interviews are also tremendous! Thank you for this, I hope it spreads the word about one of the worlds most unsung bands. Cheers!

    Talk about a deep dive!
This podcast is a great in-depth look at Silverchair’s music and, equally important, the people behind the music. I never really understood why Silverchair caught a hold of me and has held on long after they quit making music as a band, but this podcast is starting to crack open some of those mysteries for me. The show title is perfect, I wish the band had kept going and I hope one day we are blessed with something new from them, but what they created was special and I may have to just be satisfied with that.

    Awesome!
As a guy who grew up in the states during the rise of silverchair, I followed them during every release. It was a shame they didn't get the recognition they deserved state-side. The podcast has brought back such great memories that are paired with chair tunes throughout my life! You've got yourself a loyal listener! I can't wait for the next episode! Cheers!

    Obsessed.
This podcast is everything I could hope for to nurture my heartbreaking addiction to everything Silverchair. Not only do we get to hear from Nick Launay, and David Botrill..but, the narrator, Daniel Hedger, has an impressive way of breaking down every song, pointing out tiny details that have made me hear each album in a new light. I have fallen in love with the band all over again. If you are a silverchair fan, you will find yourself listening to these episodes multiple times.

    WOW WOW WOW
This is the podcast you didn’t know you needed in your life. The attention to detail and in-depth research evident in each episode is much appreciated. I only hope it can continue indefinitely exploring endless topics related to this complex and multi-faceted band from years past. silverchair doesn’t get its due (at least outside of Australia, seemingly), and this will hopefully be devoured by new fans who don’t know the history and those of us who lived and breathed silverchair from 1995 to 2010.

Amazing Podcast for all Chair fans
This podcast is an incredible resource for any fan of Silverchair. The deep dives and analysis into the band and their music are very interesting, well researched, and factual. This isn’t a salacious podcast. This is a podcast for true fans of the band who appreciate the nuances in their music and who are interested in the behind-the-scenes processes involving writing and recording their albums. I highly, highly recommend this podcast and wish there were more like it re: other great bands.

    Fun and informative
I’ve been a silverchair fan for over 20 years and this podcast is so much fun and informative! While I’m not a musician, I do love hearing a musician/fan perspective of their music. The interview and song clips woven throughout each episode is so well done and brings back a lot of memories for me. It’s apparent that the host (Daniel) has put a lot of time and research into each episode and I really appreciate that (one of my pet peeves are podcasts in which the host “doesn’t know” a lot of what they’re talking about). I’m looking forward to what’s to come!!

Finally a podcast that does Silverchair justice
Refreshing to hear a musical breakdown of one of the greatest and most underrated bands in history. Saw them in 1999 in Seattle and was an experience I’ll never forget. And Listening to this podcast takes me back that time and place. This podcast sheds light and gives answers to some of the questions I’ve had for years.
