Virtual Book Tour

Arts #198Books #70

Since we've never been ones to keep interesting new books to ourselves, we're kicking off a series of conversations with Book of the Month authors about God only knows what. Recorded at Book of the Month headquarters on West 27th St. in front of a live audience of raucous employees! Give us your ears and we'll give you a look into the minds of writers we admire and a treasure trove of anecdotes, wisdom, and fun.Suggestions or ideas? Why move the podcast?
I love the podcast and have picked up books that I normally wouldn’t after listening. I also think Jerrod and Breanna do a fantastic job as hosts. However, I'm thoroughly annoyed that full episodes of the podcast have moved over to the BOTM app. I subscribe to a lot of podcasts and I think it’s ridiculous to expect me to go to another app to listen to a single podcast. I usually listen to podcasts while driving and the podcast app syncs with my car making it easy for me to navigate, obviously the same can’t be said for BOTM. They really need to reconsider this choice.

    Move to app is obnoxious
I’ve been enjoying this podcast since it started but probably won’t listen anymore now that it has moved to the BOTM app. I’m a member and have access but a separate app for a single podcast is super inconvenient and I’m baffled why this was done. No one is going to get a book subscription just to listen to a podcast, so this seems like a much better way to piss off existing members than to get new ones.

    Pushing their app
Why is botm pushing their app so much? Some of us don’t want another app and it’s such a bummer they are removing all the club features unless you download the app :( why would they only make a preview of a podcast available? Not worth it to follow. Love the content, wish they would just stop pushing the app and make it available on their website and Apple podcasts

Good Content - Need More Professional Hosts
I love hearing the authors perspectives, the content is great, but the hosts could be more articulate. The laughter, at things that aren’t funny, is very distracting.

A great way to get introduced to new authors!
This podcast is great for helping me to hear the perspectives of authors on their new releases. I enjoy it!

Love the authors, not the hosts
Such great author interviews, but the hosts need to be more professional. The things they say are not that funny, and yet the laughter blows out my speakers sometimes. The game each episode is kind of pointless, but the authors do a great job at going with them. The questions the hosts ask are great, so I will give them huge credit for that. Please polish this podcast more!

    One you BOTM, but …
Hi, I love BOTM, but I am so confused about this podcast. Is it canned laughter? Why does the host keep laughing at things that are not funny? I think it must be canned but this podcast would be so much better without it. BOTM deserves a serious, informative, and yes, fun podcast but not a silly one. Laugh at what’s funny, not everything.

    All books
I agree with theperson who wrote that your host are difficult to understand like the one who trails off & you can’t understand her, please find some articulate hosts as the subject matter is very interesting and we listeners lose some of what is said Thanks

    My BOTM July pick
The First Ladies, great podcast with the authors and I can not wait to read this book! Historical fiction is my go to lately.

This is a perfect example of how hosts can ruin a perfectly great podcast
Podcasting is like church…it’d be great if it wasn’t for all the people. This podcast is a great idea and it has great content and it would be amazing to listen to if it wasn’t for the hosts. This isn’t personal because I don’t know them. I’m sure they’re great people but I’m curious as to why someone on their team hasn’t pulled them aside and given them some vocal tips. The vocal fry is really irritating. The one host has a really annoying baby voice and ends all her questions with questions and often times she trails off so you can’t hear her. The other host has a voice like a croaking frog and sounds like a valley girl at the front row of a fashion show tossing off comments that are hard to hear. They need someone who has a professional voice who doesn’t sound like they are in high school to host this. You can tell these hosts are very young, insular and white. This is the bane of many podcasts-and it’s such a shame because there’s such great content out there waiting to be had but if you can’t get past the vocal quirks of the hosts you aren’t gonna stick with the show.

    Not really for me

    Such a fun podcast!
Even if you’re not a BOTM member, this podcast is a great listen! I love how you really get to know the authors and how you get insight into the books without any spoilers. As a BOTM member, there are so many books I passed over that I’ve now checked out from the library or added to my to-read list because of this podcast. It makes you want to support these authors and their wonderful creations!

    River Sing Me Home
Seldom does one read a book that opens their heart, mind and soul and nudges inside with characters that come to be friends one cares about long after reading is done. I love Rachel, I love her children. These encounters are more like short stories in Rachel’s journey of healing and freedom, and I ended up feeling oddly as though I walked miles with her and sweat and stood in the rain and hoped. Everything . I hope this author writes more but if not this book will stay with me a long time.

    Such a fun listen
I have been a member of BOTM club for over a year, and recently started listening to VBT. I am really enjoying hearing the author’s voices and getting to know them as people. I appreciate that there are no spoilers for the books too!

    Love this!
I really enjoy this podcast and the interviews with the authors! The hosts ask great questions!

    The Circus Train
I feel bad that I have to give a poor review to this interview. It was my first listening to a BOMC podcast. I did not enjoy this at all primarily because of the interviewers. Lots of silly giggling and clipped enunciation was very distracting to the content. I’m sorry because I don’t want to hurt any feelings but it was annoying as heck!

    What a great book podcast!
This podcast is so good, I recently found it after becoming a member of BoTM and I’m so glad I did! The hosts always ask such smart and interesting questions and I end up falling in love with the authors and wanting to read their books immediately. I never feel like the books are spoiled, just teased enough to want more of the story. I love understanding where the authors are coming from, too. My TBR gets longer and longer! LOL

    Great Author Interviews
I have been missing a good podcast that regularly interviews authors and the hosts of this podcast do a great job. It pairs very nicely with the Book of the Month subscription box, of course, but is great regardless of whether one is a member or not.

    First time listener—I loved it!!
The first podcast I listened to was “Thistlefoot” just yesterday and I loved it! The hosts are engaging and energetic and they give me great new book recommendations. I especially loved the author’s take on why we are really afraid of monsters, •o• mind blowing. I can’t wait to to listen to more of these podcasts!

The VBT briefs are my favorite thing ever
I LOVE the VBT Brief stories and would definitely read full novels of them. The game part of the interview episodes are great as well!

I became a member of the book of the month club through a gift from my niece. It’s been fantastic because I choose books than I normally would not read. I love hearing from the authors about the process of writing the books. It’s so interesting and educational!!

I love both the Interviews with the authors and the new short stories! Short stories are so underrated compared to novels, so I hope they keep the stories coming!! 💚

A Must-Listen for Book of the Month Club Members
I’m so glad BOTM now has a podcast, and Adriana Trigiani is the perfect author to kick it off. She is so personable and interesting, and her book, THE GOOD LEFT UNDONE, has so much to talk about. I watch her Facebook Live on Tuesdays on her author page and it’s always fascinating. I hope at some point BOTM will open up the virtual book tour podcasts to readers to join in the audience, I’d love to see this in person. I can’t wait to read her book about Uncle Ralph, he has a great story.

    FINALLY!
I was so excited to receive the email that my favorite book club now has a podcast! So excited to hear from the authors of the monthly picks! Just finished episode 1 and I had to listen twice, I enjoyed it so much! I could listen to Adriana talk all day! Adriana Trigiani’s novel wasn’t my BOTM pick for April- but after listening to her interview I’m off to the bookstore to pick up a copy!! Can’t wait for the next episode! Great job BOTM and thank you!
