Echo Park

James and Terrance share DNA, but they aren’t brothers. They aren’t even friends. As a civil advisor for the LAPD, James relies on Terrance— his genetic clone—to help him pass mandatory drug testing. But when Terrance suddenly goes missing, and multiple clones end up murdered, a case of mistaken identity forces James to inhabit his double’s life, risking that the secret of his addiction will unravel his carefully composed lies.First designed as biotech property and then raised in foster care, Echoes live on the outskirts of society; genetic clones of their sources, but rarely accepted into their lives. That’s what Terrance should have been for James— a stranger he never even knew existed— but instead, their lives became dangerously intertwined. After Terrance misses their usual exchange of clean urine for cash, a man with a gun shows up instead. In order to stay alive, James pretends he’s Terrance, setting off a dangerous chain of events that quickly spiral out of his control. Inhabiting his clone’s life is the easy part; James is used to lying. He’s lied to his traditional, well-off Chinese parents about where he goes at night, to his coworkers at the LAPD about his drug habit, and to Terrance, about how severe his addiction really is. It never occurred to him that Terrance was keeping secrets, too. As he learns about the history of clones, James begins to question the biggest secret of all: the one his parents kept when they, like many others, chose to clone their children. When clones are murdered and James is blackmailed by someone who knows his true identity, finding Terrance becomes only half the mission. Because the clues left in his wake lead to a conspiracy even more cold blooded than murder— and if James can prove it, the lines and lies that divide his world and the clones will be shattered forever.Echo Park is a Realm production starring Harry Shum Jr., written by Curtis C. Chen, Monte Lin, Millie Ho, Sloane Leong, and Jenn Reese. Listen Away.

    Unique
Unique and interesting story. Took off a star because I sometimes had a hard time knowing which character was talking, since it was narrated by one person at a time. Def worth a listen and I hope they do more in this themeplex.

    Why so many low reviews?
This was a super original idea with good acting and interesting characters. I doubt they make a second season, but I wish Realm would because it ends on a nice cliffhanger. It would be a really good TV series.

    Too political
It’s an alright story but every now and then, they try to shoe horn in these political buzzwords that really pull you out of the story. I listen to podcasts like this for escapism. I don’t need to be preached to.

    Amazing
Great storytelling and the story itself keeps you wanting more and on the edge of your seat. Only having 1 voice actor does make it confusing but the show actually does a great job informing the audience which character is talking. Hope there’s a second season!

    Fantastic show
Well produced, acted, and scripted. Excellent near future sci fi mystery. The switch in perspectives is super well done!

    Brilliant, raw, thoughtful
Ethical dilemmas, lots of action, character development in every episode. And world-building with a first class script and perfect sound effects.

Depends on the style you like
Personally, I don’t enjoy that there is only 1 voice acting out all the characters. I think it’s confusing and makes it hard to tell who’s talking. If you’d be fine with that, it’s a very interesting podcast with some great world-building. Not the best Realm has done production-wise though.

    Film Noir, Bladerunner vibes
Great character study of a flawed man seeking ways to get by in what could and should be a good life were it not for his substance use, self loathing, and depression. Portrait of an Asian family reveals the struggle and love of parenthood. Very poetic, enjoyable. Visual language and a solid soundscape lends itself to the ability to see and feel the story with your mind’s eye. Looking forward to season 2.

Gripping story, phenomenal acting, great pacing
Please disregard all the crybaby snowflakes disingenuously tanking the ratings; they were apparently so triggered by “free speech” that they refused to give this exceptional podcast a chance for honest review. Sad!

    Great story
Funny how every time a podcast comes out that doesn’t cater to WASPS, they leave a poor review. Talk about snowflakes 😂 I loved the story, and I love the back and forth between the protagonist and his echo!

    Fantastic acting and story
This podcast is exceptionally good. ‘Echo Park’ pulled me in right away and kept my attention completely. The acting is brilliant, and the storyline very compelling. I found the production to be excellent as well. High marks all around.

A well written, well acted mystery
Fantastic story, well acted, and a good muster mystery. Trigger Warning: This one does contain some advanced psychological and social science concepts that may trigger MAGAtt snowflakes.

    Liberal Mess
You can call yourself pro democracy all you want but a donkey is still a donkey and a steal is still a steal. Wont happen again in 2024. Thank you for spewing your TDS early before I got to invested. I’m sure this comment will be deleted because you seem to pick and choose what people see. 45.2
