The world of cryptocurrencies is shaking. It might be just one domino-fall away from a complete crash, and that domino has a name. It’s called Tether. Tether is a crypto coin that holds up the entire cryptocurrency industry. There are over 70 billion Tethers in circulation and for every Tether that exists, a dollar should sit in a bank somewhere. But no one has seen the money it claims to have in the bank and now little-known company that specialises in financial detective work has offered a million dollar bounty to anyone who can find it.

The people who might have this information are as hard to pin down as the company’s accounts. But Bafta and Emmy winning reporter Aleks Krotoski is on the hunt for the people, the proof, and, oh yes: the million dollars. The Tether story is not just about crypto. It’s about power, accountability and trust - and how far we’ll go when we want to believe that something is real.

From the investigative team at Tortoise who brought you Sweet Bobby and Hoaxed, this is Real Money: The Hunt for Tether's Billions.

    Fascinating topic, unfortunate execution
I was really intrigued by this topic and the podcast started out strong. But it’s dragged out so long with so little substance, it starts to feel a little like the host just likes to listen to herself.

    So disappointing
I have loved all the other tortoise investigative podcasts, and this seemed like such an interesting topic, but the edit on this one was terrible! We don’t need you to spend multiple episodes telling us about your unreturned emails. Also didn’t love the attempts to be witty/pithy. Seemed like the narrator was trying too hard to put the focus on herself instead of telling the story. Such a bummer as it’s an interesting topic.

    Another Excellent One
Another podcast from Tortoise that just nails it. Professionally told, yet gripping. This one is a little gonzo, in a good way. Follow the money.

    Good lord move it along
A very interesting story but it needs direction. The reader needs to be redirected to the plotline. This whole thing could have been done in a single episode and this is a topic needing a deep dive. Entire episodes are published where they make zero discoveries or progress. Feels like they’re on a schedule even if nothing has happened. I’m 5 episodes in and there’s been virtually no movement at all. And I love this topic. They needed an editor.
