The Mushroom Cook

The story of a seemingly ordinary family lunch that turned out to be anything but normal.

Follow the journalists piecing together the puzzle of how three people died after sitting down to share a meal in the small Australian town of Leongatha, Victoria.

With the woman who prepared that meal now accused of murder, The Mushroom Cook explores the story so far – and reports on the court hearings as Erin Patterson faces trial.

feels like they called dibs on the story before they had a story. i know it's hard out there for a journalist these days but there's an excruciating amount of filler in this podcast, including a full 6 minutes of people crying at a baptist sermon?!? like, if you aren't allowed to report any details yet, don't start a podcast.

    Timing
Why start a podcast when it may take 2 years for the case to be settled? Sigh…

    Should have been 1 episode
Since this series was several episodes I expected some twists and turns to enter the story. There were no twists and turns. This reporting was more about the nitty gritty details of what the reporters did to get the story and not the interesting details of the case. For example, the audience that enjoys true crime podcasts likes to hear about the case itself and not 5 minutes of a sermon, 5 minutes about how you actually can’t talk about the case, etc…. I finished several episodes and it never get better.

    Maybe read the paper…
If you are looking forward to hearing the word ‘lunch 150 times, gossip and giggling about driving to locations and high school level production then this is for you!

    Interesting story
I enjoyed it and can’t wait for updates and more episodes as the story continues to develop!

    A waste of time
No real story at all. Just a bunch of journalists talking about themselves

    Waste of time
Should be one episode. There is little about the actual crime. Bloated with reporters talking about their jobs and giving legal disclaimers.

    I Don’t See the Point…
With the legal restrictions laid out, why was this podcast even produced. Maybe a more expansive and informative one can be done once the trial is over. For now, I would say move on.

    Get on with it already!
We want to hear about the details of the dynamics of the relationships and evidence against the lady! Geez I can’t sit through all this insignificant rambling!

We just want to hear the story
Unfortunately I couldn’t really get passed the first episode, especially when they spent so much time talking about how they are limited on what they can even say because of where they are located.

    Would not recommend
Terribly drawn out with dry interviews tangential to the meaningful aspects of the story. Finished all episodes and was still unclear on the key facts.

    Meh
Talk more about the story and less about your experience as journalists. No one cares.
