    Can’t Stand Voice
I enjoy the shows but have to be quick to mute the voice of host Adam Graham. His voice reminds me of nails on a chalkboard. Can’t stand it. It can really ruin the show knowing I have to listen to him talk and talk before the show and then blather on once the show is over.

Be prepared to fast forward (a lot).
The content is excellent, these are radio shows that were played (generally) in the 1950s. Sound quality of the episodes is usually great - on rare occasions they will sound a bit scratchy but the host is at the mercy of recordings made 70ish years ago so I have no issue with it. Sometimes (if we are lucky) there will be commercials that aired at the time of original broadcast. Those are fun to listen to…I don’t mind them at all. The stories are framed with modern day narrative that puts the show into context and adds further insight into what was going on in the world at the time. I like this too. All of this adds up to potentially a five star podcast. When I write reviews I need some way to separate the ‘five stars’ from the ‘four stars’, etc. Shows that air modern day commercials will lose a star. Seems fair to me…commercials are not bad in and of themselves but a show with commercials is ‘less than perfect’ so they always lose a star. The /audio quality/ of the “modern narrative” is just okay or at the very least, annoying. There are constant ‘skip noises’ where it seems like audio has been cut and spliced together, even in mid sentence. The volume changes slightly, or pauses between words are longer or shorter than normal, etc. The commentary is only a few minutes long- seriously, isn’t it possible to re-record until you get it in one take? Finally, back to the commercials. There are A LOT of commercials. I listen to many podcasts is this one has far, far more than any other I know. Then there are Patreon shout outs, and the Priceline ad read, and on an on. Thankfully you can fast forward through them easily enough but it means you need to be near your device to do so. Finally, it seems a bit…bold…to play so many commercials on 1950s content that you got for free, but whatever. All adds up to two stars. I would prefer 2.5 stars but I’m not allowed to give halfs. Old time radio shows are available elsewhere online 24/7 for free with no commercials but you DO miss out on Adam’s framing narrative. I still subscribe, I just keep my phone handy to fast forward through all the ads.

    Stop the Episodes 1, 2,3,4,5.
I can’t stand that Adam! I want to listen to a 30 or 40 minute episode and not have to come back time after time to listen to the other episodes! By the time I listen to part 1,2,3 or 4 ? I’ve already forgotten what that show was! What ever possessed you to do that? Thanks !

    Outstanding!!
A great podcast. I subscribe to several podcasts that focus on ‘old time radio’ but none compares to the various offering featuring Adam Graham as the host. He carefully curates all episodes and gives such great insights and information for each show. If I had to listen to only 1 podcaster, it would be Adam Graham. You will not be disappointed. Thank you.

    Stop the multi episode stuff
Adam Can’t stand the multi episode postings. Get back to one 30 minute episode format. Rick, Idaho

    Arrogant character
There are times I can’t stand Johnny Dollar.. His demeanor at times are rude , ignorant and well not called for .. Then there are times I can stand him .. The show itself is outstanding i do say, no doubt about that at all.. It’s just the character of him.
  • Si Robertson is awesome jack

Golden Age of Radio at it’s best!
I stumbled upon Adam’s podcast by mistake this past year and realized how few of YTJD episodes I had actually heard. I started listening to the broadcasts from 2016 and finally caught up to present day. Listening to these episodes from a bygone era reminds me of stories my grandmother used to share and makes me appreciate them all the more. Adam’s commentary took me a little while to get used to, but now I absolutely love the knowledge he has and shares. The audio quality isn’t always perfect, but each and every preserved episode is a treasure from the past.

Listened for years. It’s my escape. Love listing to a time my grandmother often spoke of. I feel like I’m there in a small way. Thank you Adam for bringing this great content week after week in great quality.

    Love!!
I love this podcast so so so much! I listen to this more than I do my radio. I am 17 and I try to encourage all my friends to listen to it. I love to listen to the sound of what I couldn’t be apart of, and how well preserved it is.
  • oldandgray62
    Wonderful series
Some people are just a perfect fit for their occupation and Adam fits this podcast perfectly. We play and replay and never tire. If he ever figures out how to match the volume levels of his commentary to the show we will have to figure out how to give him 10 stars. Thanks Adam

    Adam Graham- The Man
This guy has kept me entertained for years with the radio shows that he has brought back to life. I'm 23 years old and used to listen to these shows weekly with my grandfather from his own personal collection. Since his passing I have had this huge hole in my life, these have really been a solace to me over the past few years. I can also appreciate the amount of work that must have gone into recording over and converting these tapes. God bless and thank you so much Adam, these would have been all but lost to the world without you.
  • Flippit335
    Great content but
YTJD is one of my favorite shows. Adam ruins it by talking so much. I have had to stop subscribing to all of his channels due to his continual 5 minute monologues before each show..... I just want to hear the show Adam. I appreciate how much work you do for the preservation of the shows but I am sorry. I can't listen to you anymore.

    The BEST radio detective show!
YTJD has become my favorite show, and I always enjoy Adam’s commentary. The serialized shows are the best, but I enjoy the others as well. One problem I have it that only the latest 200 episodes are shown in my iTunes feed. Anybody know how to get the earlier shows through iTunes? Thanks!
  • JonPWick
    Good show!
The shows are really good and Adam does a good job finding them and putting them out there for us. It's nice to get to hear all available episodes of my favorite OTR shows all in the right order. I do wish Adam would sing the entire Pepsi jingle tho!

    Takes getting used to
I grew up on a military base in Germany between 63-68. It doesn't seem that long ago, but it was. The only tv was in german and it signed on at 2pm with just two channels. I learned to speak German watching a dubbed star trek and the avengers. Oh that Emma Peel and her effect on a young man's raging hormones. Anyway...my alternative was AFN, the armed forces radio network. It wasn't old time radio to me, it was what I regularly listened to. It's like I grew up in my fathers generation. My favorite show was Johnny Dollar. I was 12 years old and was transfixed by the stories and style of Baily. Currently, I work as a voice over artist and attribute my style to what I learned listening to the great actors of yesterday. In terms of the host's performance it took some getting used to, but what he lacks in style is more than made up in his knowledge and enthusiasm. He's great and if he got a slightly better microphone and used a wind screen, that would make for a better presentation. Just a suggestion, and please take it for what it is, just a bit of advice from a fan. Thanks.
  • Zoo2u2
    excellent

    THIS IS THE BEST!
I know Adam likes to hear about younger listeners, I'm 19 and listen to this daily. I've been a fan of the early hardboiled crime noir detective writers like Hammett and chandler for a while now but since I started college I haven't had any time to read extra books unrelated to school. This way I still fit in my fix of crime noir while doing dishes. But I'm almost caught up! Not looking forward to having to wait for new episodes. I only listen to the Bob Bailey ones so I might have to check out the other ones. Also speaking of crime noir, they steal from Hammett and Chandler (as well as film noir movies) in these all the time. The first bob bailey was almost the same story as Chandler's "farewell, my lovely" and episode 1089 takes steals chapter 2 of Hammett's "red harvest". Everything from the rich and powerful bed-ridden old man, to the physical description of the assistant, the threat to throw the detective out, the assistant knowing he's not strong enough to do so. Everything. Also, I'm a composer studying film scoring and the music is fantastic! It's so great. The main theme is very dramatic and there's lots of other great cues throughout like the dreamy chromatic clarinet theme (example of this in epsd. 1089 at 22:30). Keep it up Adam! Such high quality entertainment. I hope it never ends.

    Great podcast for mystery fans
I only wish I could see the full name of the episode before I play it.
  • MGrace73
    Missing episodes
Several times I have waited for an episode and it doesn't come. Like the part 5 of the Forbes Matter. Waited for it but it never showed. Frustrating when you don't know the whole story. Like a waste of time. I have to go look them up on the Internet to get the whole story.
