jcr388Like and like and like…I just discovered this podcast and started listing from the beginning. So far, most have been interesting. However, is Kristen Arnett aware that, in 43 minutes, she used the word “like” over 800 times? It was, like, so distracting, right? With over 450 author interviews to listen to, I’m sure this episode will become, like, a distant memory.

Lisasps1Great find!So happy to have discovered this podcast. I searched Jesmyn Ward’s Let Us Descend after finishing this hauntingly moving novel and wanted to learn more about the author, her perspective, and her writing process. I loved listening to the show! I’ll be listening regularly!
-
Jeniffer_acExcellent podcast!Poured Over by Barnes & Noble is a true gem of a podcast!

EditorFanboyHow I Find the Next Book I’ll LoveIt’s that simple. I listen to these interviews, get intrigued by an author, and suddenly I’m absorbed in the book — and that author’s bibliography.

The most readerFor Book Lovers!Wonderful podcast, very informative. It’s perfect for those looking for a book to read!
-
K chisholmSuch a great idea!I am so happy to have access to these amazing conversations with such great literary figures. I do, tho, really wish that the hosts would let the authors talk more. I find myself frustrated at the amount of airtime taken up by the interviewers. Thanks!

LaurAnne40Book Lovers Rejoice!Miwa is a wonderful host and gets authors sharing stories beyond their books that make us love the books even more. Perfect to listen to on a drive or while doing yard work and other tasks that take you away from reading.
-
Marcer32Excellent InterviewsA perfect podcast for book-lovers. The interviews feel more frank and lived-in than usual, and the hosts and authors touch on interesting facets of the process.

Prolific(B)Must Listen PodcastPoured Over has some of the most insightful and engaging conversations I’ve heard in recent years. The research and understanding of the author’s previous AND current work leads to an incredible nuanced conversation of not just how the subject navigates their process within the craft of writing but also, how they navigate the world. These conversations don’t just sound like coffee conversations about work they often cover a spectrum of feelings and life experiences only because of the host Miwa’s insatiable research, tact, grace and skillset. No interview is approached the same and the listener couldn’t be luckier.

BlkPanther20Highly RecommendLove this show. Guests are well curated and it’s clear that the host is well prepared and knows her stuff. Highly recommend, especially to early-career writers.

PolitenewyorkerThe only book podcast you need…This podcast is the audio version of living right down the street from an incredible, welcoming bookstore that had a killer event lineup and the sharpest staff recommendations. Hands-down the best books podcast out there—all of the authors you want to hear from and none your don’t. A must-listen for any discerning reader, with a host who is one of the best curators of book picks in the game.
-
VanjChan8Great vibesAlways so insightful and fun!! And there’s always such good banter between the host and the guest. Vibes top notch!
-
James91604Brings out the best in the authorsTerrific interviews that go well beyond the standard talking points into the whys and hows of books, language and writers.
-
TkyrnrGreat Pod to Learn About Books and WritersThis pod is my go to whenever I’m trying to find a new book to read. The guests are always interesting and the host does a great job bringing the ‘reader’ into the conversation. It feels very personal and not another corporate podcast that’s just trying to sell you something.

Mr. TG 1289Nourishing, in-depth interviews with your favorite authorsPodcasts are my radio, and Poured Over is one of the most consistently entertaining and thought-provoking shows on my rotation. It seems like every writer, major and emerging, swings by to discuss their latest project. Excellent questions and interesting responses, a show for bookworms and the casual reader alike (and a great resource to find your next read)!
-
Chi_Chi_ManGreat podcast!I love the conversations on this podcast! What some folks don’t get is that some writers struggle to speak about their work and that the host often has to draw them out of their shell by sharing anecdotes, opinions, etc. This is no different than Terrye Gross on Fresh Air.
-
Maine bookwormThe best!Great source for great books. Insightful analysis from a thoughtful and thorough host. Substantive discussion that engages deeply and leads to more rewarding reading. It’s the conversation you wish you could have with the writers you’ll never be lucky enough to meet. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Diana M-KPoured OverEvery episode I have listened to has been insightful and enjoyable. Miwa Messer is an excellent interviewer and has interesting guests. If I have read the book it keeps the enjoyment going and if I haven’t more often than not I want to go right out and get it. Great podcast
-
Tim in ToledoExcellence poured overThis is my go to source for what’s new and good. I rely on it for pointing out not only what is trending but what is under the radar and bound to surface. Miwa is engaged, smart and deeply insightful. Keep ‘Em coming!

GS JacobsonWonderful InsightsLove listening to this podcast! Gives great insight to the author and their writing process Love the diversity in authors as well. My two favs have been Hanya Yanigihara and TJ Klune.

Powem031Host is SO ANNOYING!!Y’all. I wanted to like this podcast so badly. Some pretty amazing guests are being interviewed! But this is not a podcast that features and focuses the guests, it features and focuses the HOST. This host, who I akin more to a parasite, loves to talk about her opinions and views of the guests work and does not allow the guests to speak on their own experience. I wanna listed to get in the mind of brilliant artists- not a podcast wannabe. Please make some changes- this podcast could be super impactful but the way it is being presented now will never be entertaining and useful.
-
Kimmy_KellyMy favorite book podcastThis is the best place to learn about new books - and the hosts are wicked smart.
-
ereader91About the AuthorLove the amazing authors on this show, but too often it feels like they barely have a chance to speak. The moderator pontificates her own opinions and thoughts but it seems the point of the podcast should be to get those from the authors… Would love to hear more from the writers themselves via more coherent and incisive questioning.
-
CA salRecommended podcast for readersIt was just suggested by my new book club’s moderator to read an interview with the author of The Art Thief, which was wonderful. I then found an interview with James McBride, writer of the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store, which was fantastic! Ordering the book now! Thank you Barnes & Noble!

Former LinkedIn FanWant to hear more from the authorsThis podcast usually has the top authors discussing the top books, but the conversations are way too monopolized by the host who clearly is a book expert, but that is not why we tune in. She also fails to be inclusive to those that have not yet read the book. Was excited about the podcast when first listened due to the great guests, but tired of the host—tried it again today and again she talked much of the time about herself vs highlighting the author and the book.

thebuffalolifeGood Interviewees, Sometimes Not-So-Great InterviewerIt’s fascinating to hear writers discuss their works. From the thought-process to the planning or motivations for things, it is important to see how your experience as a reader aligns or diverts from what the writer has intended. Unfortunately, the interviews tend to lead into baiting questions that seem to create strawmen for the writer to respond to. Some writers do and transition out of discourse and into dogma, but others offer insightful responses that sometimes support and sometimes disregard the question being begged. Regardless of what they respond, how they address these leading questions offers as much engagement as the question itself.

KanagokLovelyLovely book podcast! Always enjoy the interviews!
-
Toby The Golden BearGood source for reading materialThis podcast gives me so many great reading suggestions that I might not ever try. My last six books have come from recommendations from this podcast.

What Would Jack Bauer DoThe Best Podcast to Get the Lowdown on High Brow LitPoured over is THE podcast for book discovery. Miwa Messer is an excellent host - knowledgeable, passionate and possessed of a wicked sense of humor. If you’re a bibliophile, Poured Over should be you cup of Joe.
-
Bookslinger401Great literary podcast!A fantastic podcast about books & writers! Miwa is the consummate host/interviewer, asking insightful questions & engaging authors with their work and its interplay within contemporary culture. Helps that, unlike many interviewers, she fully READS the books, and the author’s backlist! Always get great recommendations from this show, often of books not on my radar.
-
ShaxpeerGreat for book recommendationsEvery episode ends with targeted recommendations based on the books discussed in the show… these are really the cream of the crop. It really helps you cut through the multitudes of books out there and focus on the ones truly worth reading.
-

-
gallinchainsWriters on books!I love hearing the unique author voices in these. Lydia Millet and Anand Giridharadas eps were thought-provoking and intense; Patti Smith ep full of her charisma and storytelling.
-
JespaincHost needs to tone it down a bitI want to like this podcast. It’s one of the few I’ve found that goes in-depth with authors and does a good job dissecting the books and the writing process. However— the host is so hard to listen to. She talks too much at the expense of letting the authors speak for themselves, she laughs way too hard at her own jokes, she is obsequious and fawning to the authors. But for her it would be 5 stars. Please give us someone else!!
-
JD1xLoving this!I can’t believe I hadn’t found this podcast earlier, but the interview was so well done and I enjoyed it so much. A bit of humor, and a discussion over what sounds like a great story. Another book to order for me tbr pile.
