Carrie Jade Does Not Exist

Carrie Jade Does Not Exist is the story of how one woman, who took on over six different identities, infiltrated the lives of vulnerable people, and lied her way into gaining their trust. This series hosted by Sue Perkins and journalist Katherine Denkinson tells the story of how Carrie built up a picture-perfect persona and scammed her way into the literary world until she finally got tangled up in her very own web of lies.

But, it doesn’t end there. Bonus episodes are released as new information from the current case emerges.

    Disorienting storytelling
I really wanted to like this podcast, but really disliked the way the story was told. For some reason they hired a comedian to interject constantly, and then cut up the narrative between the journalist and people who experienced it first hand and it’s just a disorienting experience. It sounds like 5 different people trying to tell one sentence and then a comedian commenting to add nothing informative. I constantly felt like I wasn’t following the story because of how many different directions it was pulling me in.

    Great Podcast & Ongoing Story
I love podcasts about scammers and this is a great one. Sue and Katherine balance each other really well as hosts and the story is riveting. Please continue to do updates as you find more information!

    Good production
The story was a little too speculative at the end for me though, where the hosts tried to guess at her motivations. I wanted this story to be a little more innovative than it was though. There are so many stories/podcasts about people catfishing others, or just generally faking who they are, and this one seemed the least of all of them. This woman is definitely ethically in the wrong, but her crimes are smaller than others’. Perhaps more of a focus on the specific negative effects on the people around her would’ve been a better aim for this show, than just a summary of her actions.

    Wonderful! Binge Alert
Just finished episode 1 and am all about this content, narration, and knack for telling a story just right. This is a binger!

    Interesting material but not interesting
It seems like they did some investigation but it’s hard to see it, overall this just feels really thin and surface level. It could have been one long episode but for the narrator’s frequent interruptions to make sure she is Saying The Right Things. Which is fine, it just shouldn’t be the focus over the story. I made it into but not out of episode 6 so maybe it ends in a way that’s worth it.

    Awesome Show!!!
I really loved this series. It is very heartbreaking to hear all of the pain that Samantha caused and the pain she personally went through in her life. I think the hosts did a wonderful job of balancing compassion for her pain with an immense amount of compassion and anger for the victims she hurt. It was interesting to dive into Carrie Jade’s story and the other identities she inhabited. The storytelling in this podcast was wonderfully done. I very much enjoyed the narration, music, and transitions throughout the podcast. Sue Perkins is a great narrator. I hope that Samantha is caught and held accountable for her crimes and the people she hurt. I really feel for their pain, the children who were affected especially because we may never know what impact she had on them, while also feeling for her loss and her story. I hope she gets the psychiatric help she needs and the victims get support in their journeys of recovering from the trauma she has caused them. ❤️

    Eh…
I’m looking for a good true crime. After listening to In Your Own Backyard I’m completely spoiled. This one lost me after 2 episodes. I couldn’t get into this psychopath woman. Made me not care about anything that she did. Sorry

    I don’t need the musings
Just the investigative journalism will do, thank you. The constant musings of the obvious by the podcaster took away from the listening experience. Just get on with the story, which sounds like it’s a good one, but just can’t continue listening.

One of the best hosted shows
The story left my jaw open most of the time. But, I really enjoyed the dynamic between the host and journalist. They showed just the right amount of disdain, but also compassion and understanding. It’s brilliantly done.

    I feel sympathy for Samantha
A well made story detailing one woman’s untreated mental health illness creating a web of lies and deceit across many towns and countries. I worry for her future victims. I wish someone could have helped her earlier in her life who assisted her in seeking help she clearly needs. Whoever Samantha is, I hope she can one day love herself and let go of the need to deceive people through these personalities.

    Binge worthy
Fascinating story and well told. The hosts were respectful to all parties involved and Susie was a delight especially. Her humor was right on time, realistic, and while humor could be tacky on a subject like this, hers was absolutely not.

    Superb reporting, easy listening
Such a well-documented story, and I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two hosts, which didn’t become endless rehashing of details but kept things moving.
