Glenn is great on the US but is badly out of his depth on Israel and, as a result, ends up amplifying the usual vicious anti-Israeli propagandists whose pseudo-scholarship and clueless/malicious understanding of the Middle East is easily debunked by hundreds of far more credible thinkers. At least get someone serious and thoughtful like Haviv rettig gur or gadi taub or… anyone else who doesn’t confuse history and fact with “narrative” and self-serving fiction.

Loury frequently agrees with the most virulently anti-Israel useful idiots the Western world has created, such as Beinart and Finkelstein. The messaging is that their extreme (and extremely stupid) views are mainstream among Jews, or else should be. Said Beinart of the majority of Jews: “their souls are deformed.” (McWhorter is commendable on Israel compared to Loury, but is unable to balance such an unbalanced show). If you want both the anti-woke views and ALSO sensible Israel policy, try Making Sense with Sam Harris, The Fifth Column, What Really Matters with Walter Russell Mead, or EconTalk: Conversations for the Curious with Russ Roberts. If your focus is Israel and you want a variety of reasonable viewpoints, try Call Me Back with Dan Senor.

Amongst all the noise out there it is always refreshing to come across some nuanced, reasoned commentary.

When I agree with them and when I don’t, and today I don’t, Lowry and McWhorter have the most stimulating, thoughtful and respectful arguments on the podcast-o-sphere. We should all learn such.

Each episode Glenn sounds older, dummer and slower. The episodes with with John McWhorter deserve 5 stars. John is a voice of reason and insight. The other guests, more often than not, just provide someone for Glenn to talk to as he repeats the same stuff over and over.

I’ve been an avid listener for at least two years. Now we have to pay? So Glenn retires and we need to pay to hear him now? Sorry. Not doing it. It’s too bad. I somehow thought he was different from all angles.

This is a really unique and interesting podcast from 2 of the most accomplished individuals in academia. They are both incredibly thoughtful and intelligent and I learn something new every time I listen.

Pay to hear academics blather? Yeah no

I’ve been listening for years now, but can barely stomach McWhorter anymore. His juvenile arguments related to the election and Coates, his entire lack of objectivity, is becoming intolerable. A difference of opinion is GREAT and he’s allowed to have and express many, but get a grip, grow up and stop acting like a petulant child. Glen does a good job expressing his opinions without using talking points taken from corporate media (as John does). He’s thoughtful, curious and actively seeks to grow. I will look for Glen’s podcasts for a bit.

A beautifully written book based on falsehoods is an ugly moral monstrosity.

Glenn, you never mention that Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005, and the Palestinians elected Hamas. They wanted them in power. Then, squandered billions of international aid on tunnels that culminated in the attacks on 10/7. You’re the one who’s unhinged in this.

I appreciate the candor and deliberate consideration of the issues. I love the discussions with John. You both approach issues intelligently, try to steelman counter arguments, and are willing to accept new ideas and change your mind when needed. I respect your ideas and perspectives and love how well you communicate them. I don’t always agree, but I always learn about the issues and how to better communicate.

This is a somewhat serious podcast but McWhorter is most definitely sounding just like a misogynist in respect to voicing negative opinions or dem nomination candidate Ms Harris’ laughter. His opinions about the new presidential candidate are evidently without self-awareness, without the self regulation one expects from an actual grownup and cringe-inducing to listen to. It’s dumb to voice basically any baseless assertion ruled by his factually unsupported view (what kind of trump-retardery have we descended to?) But that was a small part of the episode and the rest was good… three stars. Then I heard Glen say even though a gallows was constructed to hang government members on Jan 6 that somehow he regarded it as a protest and now I never need to listen again. Cops that served that day are dead now and construction demonstrates premeditation of murder. Glen is weak tea.One star.

Greetings, I must say from the beginning, I do not always agree with your perspective or with John’s as it were. However, the dialogue is at utmost essentially compelling and thought provoking and for those who digest podcast for perspectives that are differing and also sometime similar to their own this one is essential as it pertains to political/ culture perspective. I’m sure you are aware that this podcast receives a great deal of similar reviews, but as a steady and dedicated listener I feel compelled in this instance to share my perceptions although I often do not as a custom. Doctor Loury and Doctor MacWhorter routinely provide a colorful, thoughtful and balanced commentary on current events. They don’t always agree on things but they always give a masterclass on how to respectfully listen and learn from others. This is one of the consistently high-quality op-ed podcasts available.

Glenn and John are university sellouts. In addition to university sellout, John is a New York Times propagandist. Which informs their total TDS and disqualifies them from true conservative thought leadership. Proud to slander Trump and clueless that their criticism applies not to Trump but to BIDEN. I loved the pushback by John in this episode with Keith Ellison. However, I wish there had been more. He contradicted himself a few times regarding the cause of excessive crime by black youths, and completely avoided responding when asked if “Kayla” would have been caught in the crossfire at a white party. Y’all just needed the show to be an extra hour! Keep up the great work.

What an unimpressive guest who keeps getting invited back on to rant. The guy yells about elites and then talks like a typical ivory tower know-it-all.

Long time listener, first time reviewer. Overall, I find the podcast interesting and thought provoking. The most recent episode with Robert Wright certainly fit the bill, even if parts of it were extremely difficult to listen to as a Jew living in Israel. I can suggest (and hope) that you stay true to the liberal values espoused on the show and invite on someone who can accurately and intelligently respond to some of Wright's framings and arguments. I just found myself at this podcast as I was referred from Sam Harris who I listen to regularly. I prefer not to spend too much time listening to delusional people like Carol Swain. How someone like that can hold any position of authority is extremely concerning to me. She is misguided at best and I found her dialogue and arguments essentially incoherent. Not suitable for an intelligent audience.

Just listened to your discussion with Prof. West. While I find many of Prof. West’s ideas hopelessly utopian or just naive, he does have a very logical corpus of ideas that bear taking into account. You were really into an important issue when you two talked climate, and you missed a big opportunity to push back against Prof. West’s dangerous misinformation about “apocalyptic scenarios”. Very glad you brought attention to Prof. Koonan’s book but wish you had pushed back harder by saying that there is NO science supporting any apocalyptic climate outcomes—-a warming world is only apocalyptic in the warped minds of leftists/greens/progressives who use that story to foster their civilization-destroying agendas ….unfortunately all too successfully to date.

Listening to Glenn and his guests is like a hot shower for the intellectually homeless. Keep testing your ideas against the heavyweight thinkers of our time so that we all might listen in and move the conversation more in the direction of the truth, whatever that may be. Iron sharpens iron.

Between John’s systematic, deterministic excuse-making for Omar’s atrocities, and all of the pseudo-intellectual, anti-economics academic Marxists (and assorted other charlatans) Glenn can find to prostrate himself before, you can be sure that any respect you had for these men’s courageous “heterodox” thought will be swiftly and severely curtailed. Now you can add to this menu cultivated cluelessness about the nature of Palestinian activism and its Leftist fellow travelers. When Glenn is morally exercised about a pet cause, he is often incisive, extremely eloquent, and a joy to listen to. But righteous indignation only works when you know what’s right. And in far too many cases, Glenn is fundamentally concerned not with reality, but with performative collegiality and craven conformity to an irrational mob (of tenured professors). In the face of some urgent and obvious truth, Glenn can always find a nuance to hide in.

I gave this podcast a ONE because it’s constantly interrupted by stupid commercials. Maybe take a hint from other podcasters, like Bret Weinstein, Dr Andrew Huberman, Lex Fridman, who have commercials in the beginning from their sponsors, then are commercial-free, so listeners can actually focus on the content!!!

I started listening to this show because Glen is an economist at Brown. Unfortunately, this show discusses very little economics. It is mostly about race, culture, and politics. This is fine, in fact the hosts are very informed on these subjects. Please just don’t advertise yourself as a podcast on economics.
