The assumption that Trump will behave normally
It seems that the journalists here keep trying to rationalize this situation. Why do they assume that Trump will leave after four years? I don’t think I’m being alarmist by thinking that he will have some “reason” to make an exception for himself to run for a third term.

Good but Bias is Easy to Hear
NPR is a good journalism provider of news. But, since 2016 the reporting out of context or “opinions” in a non-opinion space has expanded year on year which is a turn off for journalism junkies like me.

After years of listening and supporting NPR politics, and as we go into Election Day, I’m expressing my disbelief at how flimsy this “analysis” has become. Being a nearly daily podcast, you could have gone deep into the policies of Project 2025. You could, as suggested on a recent On the Media segment, gone into the actual parallels of fascist rhetoric, matched by suggested policy by the Republican Party. If deemed to be too “imbalanced” you could have dug far more deeply into the policies of the Harris campaign, which you demanded and criticized a lack of, and then only cursorily discussed once released. The main coverage has been the horse race, and micro changes in polls, sometime directly and sometimes though talking about “voters.” You frequently jump to “analysis,” before discussing the actual subjects. That may make you feel smart, attempting to predict how something will be “spun” but when you do that as your primary analysis, you aren’t doing anything at all. It has the flavor of witty banter about the napkins at a dinner party and what people will say about them while the house is on fire. I’m sure my criticisms will be dismissed out of hand. But I’m in my late 40s, grew up on NPR, and had been instilling the next generation (my kids) with that same love. I find myself listening less and less to NPR programming (still love my local affiliate WNYC) and less inclined to pledge my support every year. Why? The quality of reporting has plummeted. You don’t need to be biased. You just need actual reporting, which is not, “I interviewed someone about how mad they are at Biden about the price of eggs, which they said were $12 a dozen, which isn’t true but did I inform them, no. That’s just their FEELING about it, so I’m reporting that FEELING.” That informs nothing and no one. Just gives a platform for feeling to carry the day, which listeners then have feelings about and on and on. I gave this election cycle another go, but every episode comes out, I see what you’re discussing, sigh and think, should I even bother listening. I know what they’re going to say and it’s going to be empty and vapid. I’m only writing this rant because I actually want NPR to succeed and flourish. This isn’t the way.

    Clear Right Wing Bias
You spoke about Trump wandering around on stage twice - once for 40 minutes and a second time for 19 minutes - where he has no focus, no direction, and no cohesion and did not once mention his age or potential risk of dementia. In fact, you stated that “there was nothing broader we could gleam” from those events. You’re minimizing Trump’s age and dementia risk, over-critical in your analysis of Harris, and its clear to me that your podcast is favorable to Trump. Right wing, pro-Trump bias. Sorry, but unsubscribed

Favorite way to start the day!
I’ve just approached my 4th year of listening to this podcast every day. A quick, informative way to hear what’s happening daily in this crazy political landscape we live in. Thank you to all your reporters for keeping us up to date.

    Mouth noises
Certain hosts make a lot of mouth noises during this podcast. I sometimes have a hard time getting through an entire podcast because of it. I understand this is not an issue for most people, but I would imagine it is an issue for many of us. Begging you to fix the audio!

    Best Political News Coverage!
You can count on NPR to give you unbiased real news coverage. This is the only News coverage I trust and listen to on a daily basis.

    Initially pleased, recently disappointed
I initially sought out the NPR Politics Podcast because I felt it could provide insightful, fact-based analysis without the heavy slant that often comes with political commentary. Now, I haven’t been listening for very long, but initially I appreciated what I believed was a nonbiased approach, and was hopeful I could rely on it for balanced coverage. However, in recent months, it has felt as though they’ve become increasingly left-leaning, with more of the hosts’ personal opinions overshadowing objective reporting. While I understand that perspectives are inevitable, I tune in to hear the facts and analysis—not to be swayed by individual opinions. If anyone knows where I can find neutral, fact-driven political reporting, I am looking for a resource!

Mara Liasson, you got it goin’ on, yeahhhhhh
I spilled spaghetti all over the floor just now on purpose. This is the podcast I put on whenever I wanna spill spaghetti on the floor. I love listening to NPR while smearing spaghetti all over my kitchen floor.

    Ranked Choice Voting
I’m sorry to say it, but IMO your research and reporting on RCV is poor and incomplete. I used to depend on NPR for good reporting but I’m constantly disappointed in the last few years. Sadly UQ

    One sided.
There are no different perspectives on this show but I still listen to see what the left wing nut jobs will say next.
  • NewfoundScrabblehata
    Bias Masquerading as Objectivity
Podcast is great for quick facts but the bias in coverage and interpretation of events is very distracting. Bias is completely fine, but not when it’s presented as objective, neutral coverage. I used to listen to this podcast a lot more but it’s just gotten worse over time.

    Like, like, like
I have listened to this show for almost a decade. I have never heard “like” so much in a political podcast, which I have noticed the last few months has become increasingly common and can be incredibly distracting. “Ranked Choice Voting . . . Coming to a ballot near you. “ from October 3rd - I finally just had to stop listening. I know this sounds mean, but I doubt I am the only one bothered by this. Work on pausing instead of saying the same word repeatedly out of nervousness.

    My favorite news summary podcast
I love the different perspectives represented here and the way in which I can get the important political highlights on the go while not spending a ton of time each day on it.

    Defund NPR
Congress please defund NPR. Every NPR host are cheerleaders for the Democratic Party. They are more one sided than ABC News. Congress please remove my tax dollars from funding this bias supposed news agency. Tax payers please boycott any company advertising on their podcast because they are supporting this corrupt, bias, lying Democrat mouthpiece.

    Time stamp
Your episode on political violence was disgusting in its false equivalence. Political violence is being stoked by the right wing in this country. Those attempted assassins were not influenced by Democrats’ rhetoric or heated rhetoric on both sides. Trump supports guns and political violence; the other side does not.

    Excellent, thoughtful coverage
Keep it up! I don’t always agree on every point, but these are sound thoughts and objectives, well-researched.

    NPR is Anti-American
They have a pro Marxist communist agenda that is pushing for bigger government and less rights for Americans. Paid for with our tax dollars.
  • YUltraaaaaaaaaaaa
    One sided agenda
Was excited for this to be a podcast that tells us the news and not be bias yet it is. Very unfortunate

    Weak analysis
Targeted toward relatively low information voters. Also, on a different subject, I hope Aisha Roscoe can get some voice lessons. but still, I listen every day.

    Total Propaganda
Bunch of hacks. Be critical of all. What time does the memo come so you know which lies to tell? True journalism asks the hard questions . NPR simply is an echo chamber for those who hate America.
  • AllyKT
    Disappointed
Maura Liasson’s comments on Kamala Harris in reference to her presidential acceptance speech would have broadly been deemed offensive had they been made by a man. I found them offensive even so. There was no need to discuss her height, what she wore, or whether or not “as a female candidate” she appeared tough enough to be commander in chief. The way Liasson stated her comments seemed to normalize or even condone that kind of criticism, when it is in fact unacceptable, however prevalent it may be in certain circles. It’s good to report on actual sexism that exists, but disappointing to hear it manufactured on NPR.
  • Slithr
    For shame
It should be no surprise to anyone that this is just an echo chamber for far leftism and wokeism. For an organization that receives government money I can’t believe how they get away with being so biased. If you need positive reinforcement for your Marxist ideas, this is the program for you
  • NotBlinded
I’ll subscribe after Mara Liasson retires
Less “opinions passed as fact” please

    Wonderful podcast!
This is my go to podcast for political news. They are knowledgeable, objective, informative, intelligent, likable, and throw in a bit of humor too. Thank you so much for this show. Well Done!

    Concern with bias
I wish there was more transparency. How many of your hosts/reporters identify as liberal and how many identify as conservative? I don’t need to know exactly who is what, just aggregated data. I feel like we’re getting reporting that tries very hard to present as unbiased, but it clearly is.
  • berrrrrg
Yeilding to pressure from the right
It’s usually good, balanced, and fact-driven reporting, but lately the story-telling has gotten more circumspect and from a conservative perspective. Recent episode on Wallz omits facts about the timeline and omits anything about how military retirement works. Expected better.
  • TheRomanTexan

    DNC propaganda!!!!
Completely biased nonsense. I can’t believe these Dem operatives with press passes are being paid by tax dollars. No mention of Tampon Tim Walz being accused of Stolen Valor by fellow soldiers. Giving this story a good leaving alone won’t make it disappear. Do your Job NPR!!!!!!

    National Public Radio???
I’m trying to understand how NATIONAL Public Radio can be so blatantly biased. I was looking for a podcast that would provide unbiased coverage of politics, but apparently that is too much to ask. Can you call yourself National Public Radio if you are just going to promote Democrats and trash Republicans? Is there no way to invite speakers from both sides of the spectrum, have them provide their thoughts and have reasonable discussions?
  • Chilly999999
Donald Trump doesn’t answer any real questions
and gave a joke of a presser. Yes all candidates should be interviewed at lots of press opportunities but please don’t pretend that trump’s meandering free association in a microphone turns up any pressure on her to do so. He doesn’t even answer questions. There are no follow ups. He’s not asked challenging questions given his insurrection attempt and big election lie, which has sown so much more chaos and danger into our politics. Please see Lawrence’s take on this from Thursday night. Shame shame shame on most media outlets for these false comparisons and normalizing trump as a candidate. I listen to this podcast less and less and am now unfollowing. Can’t stand both-sidesing fascism and not holding a failed president to account. The media has really largely failed us and our democratic republic by not being able to rise to the moment and protect us from domestic enemies and terrorists within. Pretty sad and egregious.

    Listen to it every day
I enjoy this podcast and have learned a lot from it. Will continue to listen but will someone please give Elena Moore a refresher on using the terms “me” and “I” when speaking. I just listened to her today, 8/2/2024 and she misused “me” several times. Come on, shouldn’t a journalist know better?

    “Landing With Voters”
Note to listener* Any time someone on this show asks how something is, “landing with the voters”, it’s code for, “here’s the narrative we are trying to push hard”. They literally just yap about how “voters feel” with little to no “voter” input.
  • Joseh.A.B
    Biased much
I stopped listening to this podcast about a year and a half ago they were so far to the left it was driving me crazy. But I decide to try them again it sounds like they are totally in love with Joe Biden. They don’t even try to pretend that they aren’t hard-core liberals/socialist.

I’m someone who appreciates Mara Liasson’s strong recognizable voice on each political topic. Her input and discussion tends to lead you into critical thinking about the issues as opposed to group think. I do not think she’s rude but only passionate and l tune in just to hear her speak.

Can Mara Liasson Learn Some Manners
Does she realize how rude it is talking over the others and speaking in such a patronizing tone?
  • - The Doctor -
    Total Bias
I don’t understand how Mara Liasson can be so biased and hate based towards Republican voters and NPR is still legally allowed to be a 501c3. When you’re a 501c3 organization you cannot promote biased lies and remain tax exempt.
  • SheldonLovesPods
    Mara Liasson ruins the show
I love this podcast and am a faithful listener, but I don’t know if I can continue to listen to any episodes featuring Mara Liasson. She talks over her colleagues, dismisses their perspectives, and dramatizes everything. It’s a shame because she has such vast experience as a journalist, and I think I would enjoy listening to her perspective if weren’t for her delivery and interactions with colleagues.
  • Sara20122
Usually great, but Mara Liasson makes it worse
I adore this podcast, but find myself having a hard time when Mara Liasson is on. This last episode on 7/16 out the nail in the coffin for me. She talks over everyone, speaks with such patronizing tones to her colleagues, and overall makes it an uncomfortable experience. I appreciate good dialogue and back and forth, but there’s no conversation when she’s on. The political state is laden with enough anger and vitriol, I’d rather have an actual conversation where I can get the facts and hear EVERYONE’s point of view, instead of Liasson just bulldozing every point with her opinion. Keep up the great work to everyone else!

    Lazy
What absolute lazy garbage coverage on the July 12th episode. To claim that our 6-3 conservative judiciary was put there democratically? Have you heard of Merrick Garland, ACB? The framing of the corrupt conservative hostile takeover of the judiciary as democratic is disturbing and beneath not as an organization.
  • Markybix
    Project 2025
The latest episode from Fri 7/5 is focused entirely on talking about replacing Biden at the top of the ticket when on Wed 7/3 he made it clear that he is staying in the race. How about you let it go and talk about the fascist architect of Project 2025 who just this week threatened bloodshed against the left? This is who the alternative (Trump) will surround himself with, yet instead of focusing on that the media is having a conniption because a good president and old man stumbled over his words in a debate. Meanwhile Trump can spew nonsense and ramble off topic for 90 minutes and be considered the “winner”. The blatant double standard is pathetic and downright dangerous.
  • MnReview
    leftist trash, for leftist trash
The usual garbage commie fascist democrats try to pass off as “news.” I used to listen to and watch all the public media, and saw them gradually shift from journalism to this activist democrat propaganda pushing the interests of the democrat crime syndicate . Delusional, disjhonest, dumb- democrats.
  • Nate King (stroudsburg)
Has gone downhill since Sam sanders left
I have been listening to this podcast for a long time and I have been so disappointed with the content and, at times, blatant political bias in this show. I am leaving this review in hopes that some one will read this and shake things up. I am not going to unsubscribe because I am not sure where else I would go. The political reporting used to be so good.... and it breaks my heart to listen to it now. Here is an update. I re-listened to this after the first Biden Trump debate and it’s still so much more biased than it used to be. I don’t like Trump at all and will continue to vote against him, but I hate how obviously slanted this podcast has become. I try hard to be well informed and I understand most news outlets will be biased, but I had to remove this podcast because it is so clearly unfair towards one side.
